Arranged Marriage, a Guide for Families

How arranged marriage works today: questions to ask at the first meeting, how to say no politely, matrimony sites, and red flags to watch for.

These guides cover what happens after the biodata is sent and a family replies. They follow the usual order, from the first phone call between the parents to the first visit to see the girl. After that come the second meetings and the talks before the engagement.

Most of the posts are lists of questions, grouped by topic and marked for the first meeting or for later. Some are written for the boy and girl, and some for the parents. Dowry has its own clear answer here, because demanding it is a crime under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

We do not rank castes or communities, and we do not tell families what to decide. The aim is simpler. Ask the right questions early, so nobody is surprised after the engagement.
