Biodata Format for Marriage and What to Write in Each Section
The biodata format for marriage has four parts in a fixed order: personal details, horoscope, family details, then contact details, with one passport-size photo at the top. You fill it in like a bio data form for marriage. Most families keep it to one or two A4 pages and share it as a PDF or a single image on WhatsApp.
What Is the Standard Biodata Format for Marriage?
The standard marriage biodata format starts with the person, then the horoscope, then the family, and ends with the phone number. Marriage brokers and printed biodatas follow this order too. Elders read it top to bottom, and they expect to find the date of birth and the star before they reach the father's name.
On top sits a small header. For a Hindu biodata this is often a Ganesha symbol. A Muslim biodata usually carries 786.
What to Write in Each Section
This table uses the exact labels from our form. Fields marked "addable" are optional and show up only if you add them.
| Section | Field | What to write |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | Full Name | Name as on the certificates, with initial or surname |
| Personal | Date of Birth | 14 March 1998 style, never 14/03/98 |
| Personal | Time of Birth | Hour and minute with am or pm, from the hospital record if you have it |
| Personal | Place of Birth | Town and district, for example Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu |
| Personal | Height | Feet and inches, 5 ft 3 in |
| Personal | Religion and Caste / Community | As the family usually writes it |

Bio Data Form or a Designed Format?
A bio data form for marriage is the plain fill-in sheet: field names on the left, blank lines on the right. Families used to buy it printed from a stationery shop, or type it in a table and fill it in pen.
Some call it a biodata pattern for marriage, others a biodata performa (or proforma), and some say biodata model for marriage. All of them mean the same list of fields in the same order.
A designed format holds those very fields, but with a border, a header line, the photo box and proper spacing. That matters on a phone. A typed table often breaks when the other family opens it, while a PDF or image keeps its layout.
On our site you fill the form, and the design is laid out around your answers. Change the design later and nothing has to be typed again.
Formats by Religion and Language
The four sections stay the same for every religion. What changes is the header, a few lines and whether the horoscope prints.
| Family | What changes in the format | More detail |
|---|---|---|
| Hindu | Ganesha or Om at the top, gotra, rasi, nakshatra and manglik lines | Hindu marriage biodata format |
| Muslim | 786 at the top, a Sect line, no horoscope section | Muslim marriage biodata format |
| Tamil Hindu | Pillaiyar Suzhi at the top, natchathiram with pada, lagnam, chevvai dosham | Jathagam biodata format |
| Christian | A cross and a short Bible verse at the top, a Church / Parish line, no horoscope | Pick the religion and the symbol in the form |
| Sikh, Jain, Buddhist | Khanda or Ik Onkar, Jain Swastik or Ahimsa Hand, Dhamma Chakra at the top | Pick the religion and the symbol in the form |
Language is a separate choice. You type in English and the biodata can print in any of 12 languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Odia and Urdu. The labels and the rasi and nakshatra names print in that script. Families who want the horoscope worked out in full can also see the marriage biodata with horoscope page.
One Page or Two Pages?
One page is enough for a first round, and it is what most families forward on WhatsApp. Name, birth details, height, education, job, star, parents, siblings, native place and one phone number usually fit on a single A4 sheet.
Two pages make sense when you add many optional fields, like Gotra, Dasa at Birth, Property, Maternal Uncle and a long About Me. The page count follows how much you fill. If a biodata runs past three pages, the download asks you to hide some details. For the shortest version, start from the simple marriage biodata format.
What Not to Write in a Marriage Biodata
A biodata goes to people you have not met yet, and it gets forwarded in family groups. Some things should stay out of it.
- Aadhaar, PAN or passport numbers. Nobody needs them before a meeting.
- Bank details, salary slips or property documents. A line like "Annual Income: ₹9 lakh" is enough, or leave it for the phone call.
- Medical reports. If there is a health matter the other family should know, tell them in person.
- Long lists of conditions for the other side. Two plain lines in About Me read better.
- Old or wrong birth details. One wrong digit in the time of birth can change the lagna.
- Two or three phone numbers. Give one that someone will answer.
Our list of 25 marriage biodata mistakes has a before and after fix for each.
Which Fields Can You Leave Out?
Everything marked addable can be left out. You can skip Annual Income, Property and Complexion on the first round. Share those once both sides are talking.
Do not skip the time of birth if the other family checks horoscopes. Without it, nobody can work out the lagna, and many astrologers will ask for it anyway.
Where Do Partner Expectations Go?
There is no separate expectations box in our form. Write two or three plain lines at the end of About Me, such as "Looking for a working boy settled in Bengaluru or Chennai. Same community preferred." Short lines read better than a long list of conditions.
Is There a Latest Biodata Format for 2026?
The sections have not changed. What has changed is how families send them. These days a biodata often reaches the other family on WhatsApp long before anyone prints it. So the file type needs a thought.
The other change is language. Our designs print in 12 languages, including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi and Urdu, so grandparents can read the biodata in their own script while you type in English.
Should You Send a PDF or an Image?
Send the PDF when the other side will print it or forward it to an astrologer. It is A4 and ready to print. Send the image when people will open it on a phone, because one JPG holds every page in a single picture.
You can download both from the same biodata. The marriage biodata PDF page has more on printing.

Common Questions
What Is the Format of Biodata for Marriage?
A marriage biodata format has a photo and a header at the top, then four sections: personal details, horoscope, family details and contact details. It usually fits on one or two A4 pages. Muslim and Christian biodatas usually leave the horoscope out.
What Should I Write in a Biodata for Marriage?
Write the Full Name, date, time and place of birth, height, education and job. Then the star and rasi, both parents with their work, siblings, native place and one phone number. The rest is optional. Our guide on what to write in a marriage biodata goes field by field.
What Is the Best Format of Biodata for Marriage?
The one elders already expect. Personal details first, then horoscope, family and contact, with one clear photo. A clean design that reads well on a phone helps more than a heavy border.
How Many Pages Should a Marriage Biodata Be?
One page for most families, two at most. Elders and brokers read the first page closely and skim the rest, so put the main details there.
Should the Biodata Have a Photo?
Every design has one passport-size photo box. Most families send the biodata with a photo, because the other side asks for one anyway. You can also leave it out and share a photo later, once both sides are talking. Our photo tips cover the pose and background.
Is the Biodata Format Different for Male and Female?
No, the sections are the same. A biodata format for male usually says more about job and income, and a format for female more about education and work plans after marriage. See the biodata for a boy and the biodata for a girl for filled versions.
Should the Biodata Be in English or in Our Own Language?
English works when the families speak different languages or one side lives abroad. If grandparents will read it, print it in their language. You type once in English and choose any of the 12 print languages, so you can download both.
Do I Need to Fill the Horoscope Section If We Do Not Match Horoscopes?
No. Leave it empty, or switch "Include horoscope on the biodata" off. Muslim and Christian biodatas do not print a horoscope by default.
