Hindu Marriage Biodata Format

A Hindu marriage biodata format has the usual personal, family and contact details, plus the lines Hindu families check before a meeting: gotra, rasi, nakshatra, manglik status, kuldevi or kuladeivam, and native place. The Ganesha symbol usually sits at the top, and the rasi and nakshatra come from the exact time and place of birth.

What Do Hindu Families Look for in a Biodata?

Hindu families look for three things before they call: whether the gotra is different, whether the horoscopes can be matched, and what the family is like. Education and job matter as much as anywhere else, but those three decide whether the biodata goes to the astrologer or back in the pile.

The header of a Hindu biodata on our designs carries a Ganesha symbol, which follows from choosing Hindu as the Religion.

Should You Include Gotra?

Yes, in most Hindu communities. Gotra is the paternal lineage, and many families do not marry within the same gotra. Writing it on the biodata saves a phone call that ends with "same gotra, sorry".

Gotra is an addable field in the horoscope section. For a girl, write her father's gotra.

Rashi, Nakshatra and Manglik

Rashi (rasi) is the moon sign. Nakshatra is the birth star, one of 27. North Indian families use both for gun milan, a match out of 36 points. South Indian families use them for porutham.

Manglik (chevvai dosham in Tamil) is a choice you make in the Chevvai / Manglik field: No, Yes, Partial or Don't Know. The app never fills it in for you. Write what your family pandit or astrologer has said.

We left Chevvai / Manglik out of this sample on purpose. That line should come from your own astrologer, never from a website.

Where Do Kuldevi and Kuladeivam Go?

Our form has no separate field for the family deity. Write one line at the start of About Me, such as "Kuldevi: Jeen Mata" or "Kula deivam: Palani Murugan". Families who worship a kuldevi or kula deivam usually like to see it on the biodata.

What Changes Between North and South India?

The fields stay the same. What differs is which lines the families read first and what they call them.

Common Mistakes on a Hindu Biodata

  • Writing the birth time from memory. Ten minutes can move the lagna or even the nakshatra.
  • Leaving out gotra in a North Indian family. The first call will be about it.
  • Filling Manglik as Yes or No without asking an astrologer.
  • Writing "Hindu, good family" and nothing about the parents' work.

How to Make a Hindu Biodata Here

  1. Pick a design from the 66 on offer. Marigold Toran and Temple Bell suit most Hindu families.
  2. Choose "This Biodata Is For: Male / Female" and type the Full Name.
  3. Verify the mobile number once with an SMS code.
  4. Fill personal details with Religion as Hindu, then the horoscope section, then family and contact.
  5. Preview, then Download PDF or Download Image.

Tamil families will find the jathagam biodata format closer to what their jothidar expects. For more on how the rasi and lagna are worked out, see the biodata with horoscope page.

Common Questions

Can a Hindu Biodata Be Printed in Hindi?

Yes. Type in English and choose Hindi, or any of the 12 languages, including Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali. Labels print in that script.

Should a Hindu Biodata Mention Caste?

That is the family's choice. Caste / Community is a field in the form. Fill it the way your family normally writes it, or leave it blank.

Is There a Hindu Marriage Biodata Format in Word?

Yes. Your biodata downloads as an A4 PDF for printing and one JPG image for WhatsApp, and the screen after that download offers a free Word file of the same biodata. It opens in Microsoft Word. Send the PDF to families and keep the Word file for changing a line later.

Should a Girl Write Her Father's Gotra or Her Mother's?

Her father's. Gotra passes through the father's line, so a girl's biodata carries her father's gotra until marriage.

Is the Hindu Biodata Format Different for Arya Samaj or Inter-Caste Families?

The fields are the same. Leave out the horoscope section if your family does not match horoscopes, and fill Caste / Community only if it matters to you.
