What Goes in a Marriage Biodata in Marathi?

A marriage biodata in Marathi runs top to bottom like this: a god's symbol, one blessing line, a title and a photo, then four blocks of details. Personal, patrika (horoscope), family, contact. Most families try to keep all of it on one A4 page, because relatives read it on the phone first and print it only later.

Our form has exactly those four sections. On a Marathi biodata the horoscope section prints under the Marathi heading for patrika details, which is what Maharashtrian families call the horoscope anyway.

The person reading checks things in a fixed order. Who the boy or girl is and what they do. Whether the patrika can go to the guruji for gun milan. Then the family, and the village they come from.

What Marathi Families Add That Others Don't

A Marathi biodata has a few lines you rarely see on a Hindi or Tamil one. None of them is compulsory. Write the ones your family uses.

Devak is the family's clan emblem, usually a tree, a plant or an object, passed down the father's line. Many Maratha families do not go ahead with a match when both sides have the same devak, so the other side looks for this line early.

Not sure of your devak? Ask the elders in the village, or leave the line out. A wrong devak can end a good proposal.

Kuldaivat is the family deity, written with the place: "Khandoba, Jejuri" or "Tuljabhavani, Tuljapur". Some families have a kuldaivat and a separate kulswamini, and then they write two lines.

Ajol is the mother's side, the mama's home. Many families write the maternal uncle's name and village, because the other family often knows someone there.

The name follows the Marathi pattern of own name, father's name, surname: Sayali Vijay Jadhav. A late parent gets "Kai." before the name, and that one short word is enough. Nobody expects an explanation.

Brahmin families usually write gotra in place of devak. The Maratha marriage biodata page covers the 96 Kuli caste line, devak and kuldaivat in more detail.

A Filled Marathi Biodata Format for a Girl

Sayali and her family are made up, and the number is masked. Her rasi, nakshatra and lagna are what our calculator gives for this date, time and place of birth.

Chevvai / Manglik is left out on purpose. Fill it from what your family guruji has said, never from a website. On a Marathi biodata, the Partial choice prints as saumya mangal.

For a boy, add Annual Income and write the job plainly: "Assistant engineer, MSEB, Kolhapur" says more than "Govt job".

How the Marathi Language Setting Works

You do not need a Marathi keyboard. Fill the form in English, then pick Marathi in the Biodata Language box, which is the first thing in the "Top of the Biodata" card. The preview changes at once.

Here is what changes and what does not:

  • Every section heading and field label prints in Marathi.
  • Anything picked from a list prints in Marathi too: rasi, nakshatra with its charan, lagna, religion, marital status, diet and height.
  • The time of birth prints with the Marathi word for morning, afternoon or night, and the date prints as 23-05-1997 in English digits.
  • What you type yourself prints exactly as you typed it. Type "Sayali Vijay Jadhav" and the name stays in English letters. If you want the name and the job in Devanagari too, switch your phone keyboard to Marathi and type them that way.

Gana and nadi are not ready fields in our form. Families who match by the 36 gun method often want them, so add them with Add Your Own Field at the end of the horoscope section. The same goes for devak and kuldaivat. A field name typed in Marathi prints in Marathi, and one typed in English prints in English.

Blessing Lines and Titles in the Marathi List

With Ganesha as the symbol, a Marathi biodata starts with the Ganesha line already switched on. These are the Marathi blessing lines the form offers:

  • ॥ श्री ॥

For the title, the Marathi choices are बायोडाटा, लग्नाचा बायोडाटा, विवाह परिचय पत्र and वधू परिचय. If your family writes another line, such as one for Ambabai or Khandoba, choose Write My Own and type it.

Buddhist families in Maharashtra pick the Dhamma Chakra symbol. The Marathi list then offers Namo Buddhaya and Jai Bhim lines, and the horoscope section switches itself off. The Buddhist marriage biodata page has a full sample.

Melava Booklets, Marriage Bureaus and WhatsApp

Many Marathi samaj organisations hold a vadhu-var melava and print a booklet of biodatas for it, and local vadhu-var suchak mandals keep a copy on file. They usually want one page with a clear photo and a phone number. Download the PDF for them, since it prints sharp at any shop.

For family WhatsApp groups, the image is easier, because it opens without any app. If you would rather not put the girl's own number in a big group, add Contact Person in the contact section and give her father's name.

How to Make a Marathi Biodata Here

  1. Open the designs and pick one. Marigold Toran, Paisley Border and Temple Bell suit most Marathi Hindu families.
  2. Choose "This Biodata Is For: Male / Female" and type the Full Name.
  3. Enter your mobile number and verify it once with the SMS code.
  4. In "Top of the Biodata", set Biodata Language to Marathi and check the symbol and blessing line.
  5. Fill personal, patrika, family and contact details. Add devak, kuldaivat, gana or nadi with Add Your Own Field if your family writes them.
  6. Tap Download PDF or Download Image. The screen after the download also offers the Word file.

Common Questions

Is There a Marathi Biodata Format in Word?

Yes. After you download the PDF or the image, tap Download Word File on the next screen. You get an editable .docx of the same Marathi biodata, and the Marathi letters show correctly in Microsoft Word on Windows 10 and 11. More on that is on the marriage biodata Word format page.

Can I Make a Marathi Biodata Free?

Yes. One biodata per verified mobile number is free to download as PDF, image and Word file. A free download carries a small "Made free at hellobiodata.com" line at the bottom. Biodata Plus, a small one-time payment, removes that line and opens the three premium designs.

Can I Make a Marriage Biodata in Marathi on Mobile?

Yes, the whole form works in the phone's browser and there is no app to install. Most families fill it in English and let the Marathi labels print by themselves.

Where Do I Write Devak and Kuldaivat?

Use Add Your Own Field at the end of the horoscope or family section. Type the field name, such as Devak, and the details, such as Panchpallav. Use Move Up from the three-dot menu to place it near gotra or native place.

Should a Marathi Biodata Have Gotra?

If your family uses one, yes. Gotra is under Add More Details in the horoscope section. Many Maratha families write devak instead of gotra, and many Brahmin families write gotra instead of devak.

Marathi or English, Which Should I Choose?

Choose what the other family will read comfortably. Elders in Kolhapur or Latur may prefer Marathi, and a family settled in Pune or Bengaluru may prefer English. Your details are saved on your number, so you can switch the language and download both.
