Jathagam Biodata Format for Marriage

A jathagam biodata is a Tamil marriage biodata that carries the horoscope details a jothidar needs for porutham: rasi, natchathiram, lagnam and chevvai dosham, along with the time and place of birth. Hello Biodata works these out from the birth details and prints them in Tamil or English.

What Is a Jathagam Biodata?

A jathagam biodata is a marriage biodata with the jathagam (horoscope) details written into it. In Tamil Nadu the biodata and the jathagam usually travel together. That is because the girl's side and the boy's side each take both to their jothidar before anyone talks about a meeting.

Our biodata prints the horoscope values as text. It does not print the rasi kattam or the navamsam chart. If the other family asks for the full jathagam chart, send the one your jothidar wrote, as a second file or a photocopy.

Why a Birth Before Sunrise Needs Care

Vignesh was born at 5:40 am on a Sunday. Sunrise in Tiruchirappalli that day was at about 6:04 am, so by the Tamil panchang the day of birth was still Saturday. The panchang day runs from sunrise to sunrise.

Does it change anything? Only the day of the week, if your biodata or jathagam mentions it. The rasi and natchathiram stay the same. Our calculator handles the sunrise rule for you.

What the Jothidar Does with These Details

For porutham, the jothidar checks the two natchathirams and rasis against each other on ten points: Dinam, Ganam, Mahendram, Stree Deergham, Yoni, Rasi, Rasi Athipathi, Vasiyam, Rajju and Vedhai. Then the jothidar looks at chevvai dosham and the dasa periods in both jathagams.

The biodata only gives the starting values. The final word on the match comes from the jothidar, with the full charts in hand.

Where to Write Kula Deivam and Other Family Details

There is no separate kula deivam field in our form. Families who want it on the biodata write one line in About Me, for example "Kula deivam: Samayapuram Mariamman". Native Place, Maternal Uncle and Family Type are all available and are often filled in Tamil biodatas. The Hindu biodata page shows how North Indian families write the same lines.

Should the Jathagam Biodata Be in Tamil or English?

Print in Tamil when the biodata goes to elders, the family jothidar or a broker in a small town. Print in English when it goes to a family settled in Bengaluru or abroad. You type in English either way, and the labels and terms print in the language you choose.

Some families keep both. Easy enough. The biodata is saved on your mobile number, so switching the print language and downloading again takes a minute.

The horoscope biodata page explains how the calculation works and what to do when the birth time is unknown.

Common Questions

Does the Jathagam Biodata Include the Rasi Kattam?

No. Our designs print the rasi, natchathiram and lagnam as text, with no chart. Attach your jothidar's jathagam if the other family asks for the chart.

What If My Natchathiram Differs from My Old Jathagam?

Old jathagams in Tamil Nadu are often written from a Vakya panchangam, and our calculator uses the Thirukanitha method with Lahiri ayanamsa. Near a boundary the two can differ. Edit the value to match the jathagam your family uses.

Can I Write Chevvai Dosham as Partial?

Yes. The Chevvai / Manglik field offers No, Yes, Partial and Don't Know. Use what your jothidar has said.

Is This the Same as a Jathakam Biodata in Kerala?

The idea is the same: a biodata with horoscope details for matching. A Kerala family can print the same biodata in Malayalam and choose a design such as Kasavu Gold.
