Sindhi Biodata Format for Marriage
A Sindhi bio data for marriage needs three lines most other biodatas do not have. The nukh, the family's clan name that does the work of a gotra. The sub-group, such as Amil or Bhaiband. And the town in Sindh the family came from. Make yours here free in English or Hindi, ready for the samaj WhatsApp group.
What Goes in a Sindhi Biodata for Marriage?
The usual biodata first: name, date, time and place of birth, height, education, work, parents, brothers and sisters, the current city and a phone number. Then the Sindhi lines. Nukh, sub-group and the old place in Sindh.
Most Sindhi families avoid a match within the same nukh. So the nukh goes near the top, and elders read it before the photo.
Sindhi families today live in Ulhasnagar, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Indore, Delhi and abroad, and most send the biodata in English or Hindi.
Nukh, and How It Differs from the Surname
The nukh is a clan name. In many families it is close to the surname ending in "-ani" (Lalwani, Motwani, Advani), but not always. Two families with the same surname can have different nukhs, and the other way round.
So ask your elders and write it on its own line: "Nukh: (name)". Gotra is used less in Sindhi families. The nukh does that job.
Families who check the nukh often check the mother's side too. A line with the mother's maiden surname, or the nana's name, saves a question.
The Old Place in Sindh
After Partition, Sindhi Hindu families rebuilt their lives far from home, and many biodatas still carry the town in Sindh: Hyderabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Karachi, Sukkur. Older people often place a family by that town before anything else. The Wikipedia article on Sindhi Hindus has the history.
Write the town, with the district if you know it: "Shikarpur, Sindh". If the family has lost track, write the town the elders remember, or leave the line out. Nobody minds a missing line. A guessed one causes trouble later.
Amil, Bhaiband and Other Groups
Most Sindhi Hindus are Lohanas, with groups such as Amil, Bhaiband and Sahiti. Bhatia, Sindhi Khatri and Sindhi Brahmin families are Sindhi too, and families also describe themselves by town, like Shikarpuri or Hyderabadi.
If your family prefers a match within the group, write it in brackets: "Sindhi (Amil)". Many younger families just write "Sindhi".
Our Caste / Community list has Sindhi, with Amil, Bhaiband, Sahiti, Shikarpuri, Lohana and the other groups under it. Picking a group prints only that word, such as "Amil". To print "Sindhi (Amil)", type it in yourself.
Faith, Jhulelal and the Header Line
Many Sindhi families worship Jhulelal, and Cheti Chand is the community's main festival. Some families also follow the Guru Granth Sahib and visit both a mandir and a gurdwara. A line in About Me like "Family follows Jhulelal and Guru Nanak" tells the other side a lot in a few words.
Choose Hindu as the Religion and the Ganesha symbol comes in by itself. You can change it to Om, or switch the symbol off.
A "Jai Jhulelal" line is popular at the top of Sindhi biodatas, but it is not in our built-in list. Turn the Blessing Line on, choose Write My Own and type "Jai Jhulelal", in English or Hindi letters.
Business Families and Families Abroad
Trade is common in Sindhi families. Write the business so a stranger can picture it:
- Wholesale garments, two shops, Ulhasnagar Camp 3
- Own CA firm, Pune. Father runs a pharma distribution agency.
- Software engineer in Dubai. Family runs a hardware store in Indore.
Many Sindhi families have someone in Dubai, Hong Kong, Lagos, the UK or the US. If the boy or girl lives abroad, write the country, the visa or residency status, and whether they plan to stay or come back. That is the first thing the other family will ask.
Horoscope or No Horoscope?
Practice varies. Many Sindhi families match the kundli and others do not. Our form keeps the horoscope section on for a Hindu biodata and works out the rasi, nakshatra and lagna from the birth details.
If your family does not match, switch off "Include horoscope on the biodata" and nothing about stars prints. Say which way you lean in About Me: "Kundli matching not necessary" is a common line.

Can the Biodata Print in Sindhi?
Not yet. Sindhi is written in two scripts in India, Perso-Arabic and Devanagari, and our 12 print languages do not include Sindhi. Most Sindhi families choose English. For Devanagari labels, choose Hindi.
Type the details in English. They print as you typed them, and on a Hindi biodata the labels print in Devanagari. A field you add yourself, like Nukh, can be named in English or in Devanagari, and the name prints exactly as typed.
