Anshik Manglik, What Partial Manglik Means

Anshik manglik means a person has mangal dosh in a partial or weak form. Most often, Mars sits in a manglik house when counted from the moon or Venus but not from the lagna, or it sits in a house astrologers treat as weaker, like the 12th. Many pandits match an anshik manglik with another anshik or a manglik, and some accept a non-manglik after checking both charts.

The word is spelt many ways: anshik, angshik, aanshik. All mean "partial". You will also hear "low manglik" and "half manglik".

What Anshik Manglik Means

A person is manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the birth chart. Astrologers count those houses three times: from the lagna (ascendant), from the moon, and from Venus. The Drik Panchang mangal dosha page says all three should be checked.

When the dosha shows up strongly, from the lagna and in a heavy house, families say "full manglik". When it shows up only weakly, or only from the moon or Venus, they say anshik.

There is no single classical definition of anshik manglik. It is a word families and astrologers use, and each one draws the line a little differently. So when you are told "anshik", ask what exactly was seen.

Full, Anshik and Low Manglik

The AstroSage mangal dosha report puts it this way: Mars in these houses in all three charts is "high" dosha, and in any one chart it is "low" dosha, also called partial.

Placements Families Call Partial

These are the cases most often called anshik. Your astrologer may use only some of them.

1. Mars in a manglik house from the moon or Venus only, not from the lagna.
2. Mars in the 12th house. Drik Panchang's own table rates the 12th at about 50%, against about 100% for the 7th and 8th.
3. Mars in the 1st or 2nd house, which one region counts and the other does not. North Indian astrologers usually leave out the 2nd, and South Indian astrologers usually leave out the 1st, as Drik Panchang notes.
4. Mars in a manglik house but with a cancellation that weakens it, such as Jupiter's aspect, which AstroSage lists.

Case 3 is common in mixed North-South proposals. A girl from Bengaluru with Mars in the 1st house may be called non-manglik by her family jothidar and manglik by the boy's pandit in Lucknow. Both are following their own rule.

Is Anshik Manglik Less Serious?

Most astrologers treat it as milder than full manglik. How much milder depends on which of the cases above applies.

AstroSage adds that some astrologers believe a low dosha may be nullified after the age of 28. Many families have heard of this "28 rule". It is a belief some follow, not part of the house rule, so ask your astrologer whether he applies it.

Who an Anshik Manglik Can Marry

There is no fixed answer, but this is what pandits commonly advise:

Does Anshik Manglik Need Remedies?

Often not. Many astrologers do not prescribe any remedy for a partial dosha, especially when the partner is also manglik or anshik.

If a remedy is suggested, it is usually a simple one: Tuesday prayers to Hanuman or Murugan, a mangal shanti puja at the family temple, or charity on Tuesdays. How to Write Anshik Manglik on a Biodata

Write it plainly. The other family's pandit will see it anyway, and stating it early saves both sides time.
