Kundli Details in a Marriage Biodata, with Samples

The kundli details most families put in a marriage biodata are the date, time and place of birth, rashi (moon sign), nakshatra with its charan (pada), gotra and manglik status. North Indian biodatas often add gana and nadi, and South Indian ones add lagnam, dosham and the rasi and navamsa charts. With these, the other side's pandit can start matching straight from the biodata.

This page lists each field, what it means, and how families in different regions write the horoscope block.

Why Families Look for Horoscope Details First

In many families the biodata goes to the pandit or jothidar before anyone else reads it closely. If the stars do not match, the proposal stops there.

So the horoscope block saves time for both sides. A biodata without it means a phone call, a wait for the kundli to be sent, and only then a match. A biodata with it can be checked the same evening. The Hindu marriage biodata format page shows this block filled in for a made-up girl from Jaipur.

Gana and nadi follow from the nakshatra, so they need no extra information. Together they carry 14 of the 36 gunas in gun milan, as the Drik Panchang kundali match tutorial shows. Our nakshatra matching guide has a table of all 27 stars with their gana and nadi.

Gotra is not a horoscope value, but it sits in the same block on most Hindu biodatas because it is checked at the same stage. See what is gotra if your family is unsure of it.

Attach the Chart or List the Fields?

Do both if you can. The listed fields let anyone check star matching in a minute. The chart lets the pandit check manglik, the lagna and the full chart without asking.

Our maker prints the horoscope as listed fields: rasi, nakshatra, lagna and the rest, as text. It does not draw a rasi chart, navamsa or kundli chart, and there is no place to add a scan. So if the other side wants the chart, send the priest-written horoscope as a second file or a photocopy along with the biodata.

Writing Manglik and Dosha Status Tactfully

Write it plainly and early. Hiding it only leads to an awkward call after the pandit sees the chart. Manglik is checked separately from the 36 gunas, as Drik Panchang's matching page explains, so the other side will ask about it even when the score is good.

StatusWhat to write
Not manglikManglik: No
ManglikManglik: Yes
PartialManglik: Partial (anshik)
Not checked yetManglik: Don't Know
Remedy doneManglik: Yes, and one line in About me, for example "Mangal shanti puja done in March 2026"

Our maker never fills manglik on its own. The Chevvai / Manglik field has No, Yes, Partial and Don't Know, and you choose what your family astrologer said. For partial manglik wording, see anshik manglik.

Tamil families often write rahu-kethu dosham too. Our form has no separate Dosham field for it, so use Add Your Own Field in the Horoscope section, name it "Dosham" and type "Illai" or what your jothidar wrote.

If You Don't Want Horoscope in Your Biodata

That is your right, and many families leave it out. Some reasons we hear: the family does not follow astrology, the birth time is not known, or it is a love marriage and the couple only needs a biodata for relatives.

If you leave it out, say so once. A line such as "Horoscope matching not required" tells the other side not to wait for a kundli. In our maker, turn the Horoscope section off and put that line at the end of About Me.

You can also keep a small block with just the rashi and nakshatra. Those come from the date of birth alone on most days, and they let a traditional family run a quick check if they want.

Getting the Values Right

Most mistakes come from the birth time. A birth just before or after a nakshatra change can put a person in a different star, and the lagna changes about every two hours.

Our biodata with horoscope works out rashi, nakshatra with charan, lagna, dasa at birth and tithi from the date, time and place of birth. Gana and nadi are not filled, so add them with Add Your Own Field if your family writes them. If your family's old horoscope says something different, pick the family value.

If the birth time is not known, leave Time of Birth empty. The maker then fills only what the date can give, and the lagna stays empty. Tamil families can use the jathagam biodata format directly.

How the pandit then reads these values is in the kundli milan guide.

Common questions

What Kundli Details Should Be in a Marriage Biodata?

Date, time and place of birth, rashi, nakshatra with charan, gotra and manglik status. Many add gana, nadi and lagna too.

Should I Attach the Full Horoscope Chart?

It helps, especially for South Indian families who match the full jathagam. List the main fields as well so anyone can read them quickly.

How Do I Write Manglik Status in a Biodata?

Write "Manglik: Yes", "No", "Partial" or "Don't Know", as your family astrologer said. If a remedy has been done, add one line about it.

What If I Don't Believe in Horoscope?

Leave the horoscope block out and write "Horoscope matching not required" at the end of About Me. That tells families who insist on matching to look elsewhere.

Which Horoscope Fields Do Tamil and Telugu Families Expect?

Tamil families look for rasi, natchathiram with padham, lagnam, dosham and the charts. Telugu families expect rasi, nakshatram with padam, gotram and kuja dosham status.
