Nair Marriage Biodata Format

On a Nair marriage biodata the star comes first, then the jathakam details with any chovva dosham, the tharavad (ancestral house) name, and the title such as Menon, Pillai, Kurup or Nambiar. Most Nair families send the jathakam to their astrologer before anything else. Make yours here free. It prints in Malayalam or English.

What Goes in a Nair Biodata for Marriage?

A Nair biodata for marriage has the usual birth details and family details. Two things set it apart from a North Indian one. The star and jathakam sit near the top, because Kerala families give the horoscope more weight than most. And the family is placed by its tharavad and its title more than by any gotra.

Most Nair families do not write a gotra at all. If a website gives you a "Nair gotra list", you can ignore it.

Star and Jathakam Details

The jyotsyan (family astrologer) compares the two jathakams for porutham, and also checks papasamyam and chovva dosham. Papasamyam is the balance of malefic planets in the two charts, and the biodata only has to give enough for that first check:

LineWhat to write
StarThe nakshatram, by the name your family uses
Rasi (koor)The moon sign
LagnamNeeds the exact time of birth
Chovva doshamNo, Yes, Partial or Don't Know
Time and place of birthExact, for the other side's astrologer

Our form fills rasi, star with pada and lagnam from the date, time and place of birth, using the Lahiri ayanamsa. If the jathakam your jyotsyan wrote shows a different star, pick his star instead. Go with the jathakam. Chovva dosham goes in the Chevvai / Manglik line, and the form never fills that one for you, so ask the jyotsyan who wrote the jathakam.

Papasamyam is not a field in our form. If your family wants the papa points on the biodata, add a row with Add Your Own Field in the horoscope section and copy the number from the jathakam.

Why Does My Star Print as Uttara Ashadha?

On an English biodata the star prints by its all-India name, so Uthradam prints as Uttara Ashadha and Thiruvathira as Ardra. If your jathakam says Uthradam, choose Uttara Ashadha in the list. On a Malayalam biodata the star prints in Malayalam script.

The row label is "Nakshatra" on an English biodata, so if you want it to say "Star" the way Kerala families say it, use Rename from the three-dot menu of that row.

The biodata prints these as text rows and does not draw the rasi chart. Keep the jathakam ready. Send it as a second file when the other family asks. Our jathagam biodata format page shows which horoscope rows print.

Tharavad, Title and Sub-Caste

The tharavad is the family's ancestral house and name. Nair families were matrilineal (marumakkathayam), with the tharavad traced through the mother's line and run by the karnavan, the eldest man. The joint family system ended in law with the Kerala Joint Hindu Family System (Abolition) Act, 1975. The name has stayed, and many families still write it.

Add it with Add Your Own Field in Personal Details. Name the field Tharavad, or Veettu Peru if your family says that, and write the house name with the place: "Puthiyaveettil, Ottapalam". Some families also write the mother's tharavad, since the old matrilineal link still matters to the elders.

The title often carries the sub-caste. Our community list has Menon, Pillai, Kurup, Nambiar, Kartha, Kaimal, Unnithan, Kiryathil Nair, Illathu Nair and Swaroopathil Nair, among others. Write "Nair (Menon)" in Caste / Community if your family prefers a match within the group. Many now write just "Nair". That is fine.

Titles are regional too. Menon is common in central Kerala and Malabar, Pillai in the south, Nambiar in the north. The title alone tells the other side something.

Gulf Jobs and Family Details

Gulf jobs are common in Kerala families, so write the country and city plainly: "Accountant, Abu Dhabi" or "Nurse, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha". If the boy or girl works abroad, put the city in Current City under Contact Details.

Write the father's and mother's work with the department or the company, because elders in Kerala like to know where someone served before retiring. "Retired, KSEB" or "High school teacher, Pala" is enough. Native Place takes the town and district.

A Filled Nair Marriage Biodata Format for a Girl

The girl and her family are made up, and the number is masked. The rasi, star and lagna are our calculator's real output for these birth details. Chitra is the star Kerala families call Chithira.

We left the chovva dosham line out of this sample on purpose. That line should come from your own jyotsyan, never from a website.

For a Nair boy, write the job and where he works, and whether he plans to settle in Kerala. Families of girls often ask about that before anything else.

Header Line, or None

Many Kerala Hindu families print no line at the top at all. With the Ganesha symbol, a Malayalam biodata starts with ഹരിഃ ശ്രീ ഗണപതയേ നമഃ. The Malayalam list also has ഓം (Om) and ഓം നമഃ ശിവായ. To print the name of your family temple or deity, tap Write My Own and type it. To print nothing, switch the Blessing Line off.

For the design, Kasavu Gold has a cream and gold border in the style of a kasavu saree.

Malayalam or English?

Families in Kerala often print in Malayalam. Families with relatives in the Gulf often print in English. Type the details in English and choose the print language. In Malayalam the labels print in Malayalam script, and so do rasi and star. Names and the lines you typed print as you typed them. The Malayalam marriage biodata page shows the Malayalam print.
