Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2026 falls on Friday, 20 November 2026, as per Drik Panchang for New Delhi. The Ekadashi tithi runs from 7:15 am on 20 November to 6:31 am on 21 November. It ends Chaturmas, and the first marriage muhurat of the season on Drik Panchang is the very next day, Saturday 21 November.

The day goes by several names. Devutthana Ekadashi, Prabodhini Ekadashi and Devuthani Gyaras all mean the same Kartika Shukla Ekadashi.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2026 Date and Parana Time

Drik Panchang lists two fasting days this year, which happens when the Ekadashi tithi stretches across two sunrises. Most households fast on 20 November. Some Vaishnava households fast on 21 November. Follow your family's custom, and break the fast in the parana window for your city.

Parana should not be done during Hari Vasara, the first quarter of Dwadashi tithi. That is why the 2026 window opens only after 12:07 pm on 21 November.

Why Do Weddings Start After Dev Uthani Ekadashi?

Dev Uthani Ekadashi marks the end of Chaturmas, the four months from Devshayani Ekadashi, when Vishnu is said to sleep, to the day he wakes. Most North Indian families do not hold weddings in those four months. In 2026 Chaturmas began on 25 July with Devshayani Ekadashi.

On Drik Panchang's marriage calendar, every day from 1 to 19 November 2026 is marked as Chaturmas, and 20 November as partly inside it. The first open day is 21 November.

Is Dev Uthani Ekadashi an Abujh Muhurat?

Many families treat Dev Uthani Ekadashi as abujh, a day so auspicious that no separate muhurat is needed. The panchangs do not all agree.

Drik Panchang's note on marriage dates says that Akshaya Tritiya, Prabodhini Ekadashi and Makar Sankranti fall on good marriage days most of the time, "but that is not always true". In 2026 it marks 20 November as partly inside Chaturmas and gives no muhurat that day.

Prokerala, however, lists a marriage window on 20 November 2026 from 6:56 am to 7:00 pm, in Uttara Bhadrapada nakshatra.

The Tulsi Vivah Connection

Tulasi Vivah is the ceremonial wedding of the tulsi plant to Vishnu, or to Krishna. Drik Panchang lists it on Saturday, 21 November 2026, in Dwadashi tithi, from 6:31 am on 21 November to 4:56 am on 22 November.

Many families wait for Tulasi Vivah before they start their own wedding functions. In 2026 it falls on the same day as the first marriage muhurat, which makes 21 November an easy date for such families.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2027 Date

In 2027, Dev Uthani Ekadashi falls on Wednesday, 10 November, with parana on 11 November from 6:40 am to 8:50 am, New Delhi time. Tulasi Vivah follows on Thursday, 11 November 2027.

This time Drik Panchang does list a marriage muhurat on the day itself, from 9:11 am to 11:40 pm, starting right after the Ekadashi tithi ends. Our November 2027 list has all 11 dates of that month.
