About Me for a Girl's Marriage Biodata

About Me for a Girl's Marriage Biodata

A girl's About Me should say what she does, what she is like, what she enjoys and what she hopes for after marriage, in three or four plain sentences. If she plans to keep working, say so here, calmly and early. It saves both families a difficult conversation later, and the right families will read it as a plus.

The samples below are grouped by where she is in life. Change the job, the city and one habit, and it becomes hers.

What Families Look for in a Girl's About Me

The boy's family usually reads the About Me looking for three things. How she will fit into their home. Whether she plans to work. And whether she sounds like a real person or a copied paragraph.

Mothers-in-law in particular read between the lines. "Independent" can be read two ways. "Has managed her own flat in Bengaluru for four years" says the same thing as a fact, and nobody can misread a fact.

Write it in the girl's own words if she is willing. Parents can add a line about the family afterwards.

Writing About Career Plans and Relocation

Say it in one line, without apology. Both of these work:

  • "I would like to continue working after marriage."
  • "I am open to moving to another city if my husband's job needs it."

Avoid making it sound like a condition: "I will work after marriage, no compromise" invites an argument before anyone has met. If moving is not possible, say why in a few words: "I would prefer to stay in Hyderabad, as my parents live with me."

If she is open to living abroad, say "open to settling abroad" plainly. Families with an NRI son read for exactly that line.

Things to Keep Out of Her About Me

  • Weight, complexion or any line about looks. The photo does that work.
  • Past relationships or engagements that did not go ahead.
  • Her exact salary.
  • Social media handles. The biodata will be forwarded to people you do not know.

If her photo or biodata is ever misused, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal has a separate option for cyber crimes against women and children.

If a biodata website holds her details, she can use its own delete option today. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 will also let her ask for them to be erased, but that part starts only around May 2027, as the Press Information Bureau explains.

Once the About Me is ready, you can add it under About Me in Personal Details. Our girl's biodata page shows a filled sample with the rest of the sections. The general About Me guide has the four-line formula and samples for boys.

Common questions

What Should a Girl Write About Herself in a Marriage Biodata?

Her work or studies, one or two true qualities, an interest, and what she hopes for after marriage. Three or four sentences are enough. For one worked example, see the girl's About Me on our marriage biodata sample page.

Should a Girl Mention That She Wants to Keep Working?

Yes. It is better said in the biodata than discovered at the third meeting. One calm line is enough.

How Should a Homemaker Describe Herself?

Plainly, with what she does every day. "I manage our home and my father's shop accounts" is a stronger line than "homely".

How Can She Sound Confident but Not Put Elders Off?

State facts and hopes, not conditions. "I hope to continue working" reads well. "I will not leave my job" reads like a warning.

Should the Girl or Her Parents Write the About Me?

Ideally the girl, in her own words. Parents can check it for tone and spelling before it goes out.
