The About Me in a marriage biodata is three or four plain sentences: what the person does, what kind of person they are, what they enjoy, and what home life they hope for. Keep it between 40 and 80 words, use real details instead of adjectives, and write it in one voice, either "I" or "she" and "he". The samples below follow that pattern.
What About Me Is For
Every other line in a biodata is a fact. About Me is the only part where the boy or girl sounds like a person.
Elders on the other side read it closely, often aloud to the rest of the family. They are not looking for clever writing. They want to know three things. Is this person settled? Will they get along with our family? Do they want the same kind of life as our son or daughter?
A good About Me answers those without saying them directly.
The Four-Line Formula
Write one sentence for each of these, in this order:
- What I do (job or studies, and where)
- What I am like (one or two true qualities, shown with a fact)
- What I enjoy (one or two real interests)
- What I hope for (the kind of home or partner, in one line)
Here is the formula filled in for a made-up boy from Nagpur:
"I work as a civil engineer with the state PWD in Nagpur. I am the kind of person who fixes things at home before anyone asks, from a leaking tap to my mother's phone. On Sundays I play badminton and cook breakfast for the family. I am looking for a simple, educated girl who values family and is happy to live in Nagpur."
That is 66 words. It names a job, a city, a habit and a hope. No word in it is borrowed from a template.

Words That Read Well, and Words to Drop
Plain, specific words read best. "Calm", "simple", "close to my parents", "hard-working", "punctual", "friendly", "religious", "fond of cooking".
Drop words that every biodata uses and nobody believes: "God-fearing", "homely", "fair", "smart and handsome", "dynamic", "passionate", "down-to-earth person with good values". They fill space without telling the reader anything.
The best fix for a vague word is a fact. "Caring" becomes "drives my grandmother to the temple every Friday".
Mistakes to Avoid
- Writing a resume. "Seeking a challenging position" belongs in a job application.
- Copying a sample word for word. If ten biodatas in the same group have the same paragraph, the other family will notice.
- Listing expectations in About Me as demands. One line on the kind of partner is enough.
- Over-sharing. Past relationships, health details or salary figures are for later conversations. Leave out Instagram handles too, since a biodata is forwarded to strangers. If a photo or profile is misused, report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
- Switching voice. Do not start with "I" and end with "She".
Should You Use AI to Write It?
ChatGPT or Gemini can turn rough notes into neat lines, but they also add words like "passionate" that sound nothing like your son or daughter. If you use AI, give it only the facts it needs, never phone numbers or the full birth details. Google's Gemini privacy hub asks users not to enter confidential information. Our page of ChatGPT prompts for a biodata has prompts that keep the tone plain.
Turning a Sample into Your Own
Take any sample above and change three things: the job, the place and one habit that is truly yours. Then read it aloud to someone at home. If they say "that is exactly him", you are done.
On our form, About Me is under Add More Details in Personal Details. It holds up to 700 characters, about five sentences. Partner expectations go as the last line of About Me, because there is no separate box. You can add it to your biodata here along with the other sections.

Common questions
How Long Should About Me Be in a Marriage Biodata?
Three or four sentences, about 40 to 80 words. Longer than that and most readers skip to the family details.
First Person or Third Person?
Use "I" if the boy or girl writes it, and "she" or "he" if the parents do. Either is fine. Just do not mix the two.
How Do I Write About Myself for Marriage?
Follow the four-line formula above in the first person: your work, what you are like, one thing you enjoy, and the home life you hope for. Karthik's lines on our marriage biodata sample page start with "I am a government engineer posted in Madurai", which is the right tone.
Is the Description for a Marriage Profile the Same as About Me?
It starts from the same lines. The description for a marriage profile on a matrimony site is longer, five to eight sentences, because strangers read it without the rest of the biodata. Add a line on your family and one on the life you hope for.
Can I Mention Expectations in About Me?
Yes, in one line at the end, like "I hope to marry someone who is open to living in Pune." Keep a longer list for when the families talk.
Can I Write About Me in Tamil, Hindi or Marathi?
Yes. On our biodata, labels print in the language you choose, and you can type the About Me itself in English or in your language.
What If I Am Introverted or Have an Ordinary Background?
Most people do. Write what you do and what you like, plainly. "I am quiet and enjoy reading" is a perfectly good line.
