Partner Expectations for a Girl's Marriage Biodata

Partner Expectations for a Girl's Marriage Biodata

In a girl's marriage biodata, partner expectations are two or three lines on the kind of boy and family she hopes for. Most girls today mention education or a stable job, respect for her career, where they will live, and one or two values like honesty or a calm nature. Keep it short and word each wish as a hope, not a rule.

What to Cover as a Girl

Think about the four questions that decide daily life after the wedding:

  1. Will I keep working?
  2. Where will we live, and with whom?
  3. What kind of person do I want to share a home with?
  4. Does community or horoscope matter to my family?

Pick the two or three answers that are truly settled. Those go in the biodata. The rest can come up when the families talk.

Samples That Put Her Career First

Sample
Looking for an educated, well-settled boy who supports my career.
I plan to keep working after marriage and hope for a partner who is happy with that.
Prefer a boy working in Bengaluru, as my job is here.
Looking for someone who respects a working wife and shares housework.
A boy in the same field (medicine) preferred, as he will understand the hours.
Hoping for a partner who will support me in completing my PhD.
Looking for someone in a stable job, in Pune or open to moving to Pune.
A partner who values ambition and is ambitious himself.
Government employee or a boy with a stable private job preferred.
A boy who will not ask me to choose between work and family.

Samples for a Family-Oriented Girl

Sample
Looking for a boy from a simple, cultured family who respects elders.
A boy who is close to his family and will also respect mine.
Comfortable living in a joint family.
Prefer a vegetarian family that follows our traditions.
Looking for a kind, religious boy from our community.
A family that celebrates festivals together, as we do.
Someone calm and patient, who values home life.
A boy who will help me look after my parents, as I am their only daughter.

That last line matters to many families now. If she is an only child or the parents depend on her, say it in the biodata. It is far better than raising it after the engagement.

A boy who sees marriage as teamwork, not roles.
A partner who is open-minded and respects both families equally.

An educated boy who is emotionally mature and good at talking things out.

A calm, settled boy, ideally aged 35 to 42, ready to start afresh.
A kind partner who does not dwell on the past.

Polite Wording for Sensitive Asks

Some wishes are hard to write without sounding like conditions. Here is wording that keeps the meaning and loses the edge.

What she meansHow to write it
I do not want to live with in-lawsPrefer to set up our own home, while staying close to both families
I will not quit my jobI would like to continue working after marriage
He should earn wellLooking for a well-settled boy with a stable career
No drinking or smokingNon-smoking, non-drinking boy preferred
I want a small familyPrefer a nuclear family
I want to choose for myselfLooking for someone I connect with, from any community

A girl may ask about income as clearly as a boy's family asks about her education. Still, a figure in the biodata reads as a price tag. "Well-settled" carries the same meaning.

What the Boy's Family Reads into Each Line

The boy's parents often read the expectations line before the photo. A few patterns they notice:

If she writesThey usually read it as
I would like to continue workingClear and settled. Families who agree will call
Prefer a nuclear familyShe may not want to live with the in-laws. Families with an only son may hesitate
Open to settling abroadNRI families will read on
Caste no barThe girl's family is flexible on community
Nothing at allEither very flexible, or the family forgot. Many will call to ask

None of these is wrong. The point is to write the line that matches what she truly wants, so that the families who call are the right ones.

What Not to Write

  • Height, colour or looks of the boy as a condition
  • An income figure
  • "Must have own house" or a list of assets
  • Anything that hints at gifts or arrangements between families

Demanding dowry is an offence under section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, whichever side asks. If a boy's family hints at it, the National Legal Services Authority gives free legal advice on its helpline, 15100.

Where to Write It

On our biodata form there is no separate expectations box. Add the two or three lines at the end of About Me, in Personal Details. Our girl's biodata page shows a full filled sample with every section in place. Ananya's About Me on our marriage biodata sample page ends the same way: "Looking for a well-educated boy from Tamil Nadu, working in Coimbatore, Chennai or Bengaluru."

The general guide on partner expectations has a table of must-haves and preferences that helps you decide which lines to keep.

Common questions

What Should a Girl Write in Partner Expectations?

Two or three lines on education or work, where she would like to live, and one or two values. Add community or horoscope only if the family insists.

Should a Girl Mention She Wants to Keep Working?

Yes. One calm line, like "I would like to continue working after marriage", saves time for both families.

How Can She Mention a Nuclear Family Politely?

Write "Prefer a nuclear family" or "Prefer to set up our own home, while staying close to both families". Both are common and accepted.

Can a Girl Write Income Expectations?

She can, but a figure looks like a condition. "Well-settled with a stable career" says the same thing more gently.

How Long Should a Girl's Expectations Be?

Two or three sentences. Anything longer usually means preferences that can wait for the first call.
