A photographer's marriage biodata should say what kind of photography you do, whether you own a studio or work freelance, and since which year. "Wedding and candid photographer, own studio in Thanjavur since 2018" tells a family more than "Photographer" ever will. Add a yearly income range and one honest line about the wedding season.
The rest of the biodata is the usual format. Only the job lines need more care, because elders often have a fixed picture of a photographer as the man with the camera at their nephew's wedding.
Why One Word Is Not Enough
"Photographer" covers very different work. A studio owner with four staff, a fashion photographer in Mumbai, a staff photographer at a newspaper and a college boy who shoots on weekends all use the same word.
The other family will ask which one you are. Answer it in the biodata itself.
How to Write the Job / Occupation Line
Use three parts: the kind of photography, studio or freelance, and the town with the year you started.
| Your work | Job / Occupation line |
|---|---|
| Wedding studio owner | Owner, wedding photography studio, Madurai, since 2017 |
| Candid and pre-wedding | Candid wedding photographer and filmmaker, freelance, Pune |
| Product and catalogue | Product photographer for e-commerce brands, own setup, Surat |
| Newspaper or magazine | Staff photographer, a Malayalam daily, Kochi |
| Fashion | Fashion and portfolio photographer, freelance, Mumbai |
| Studio employee | Senior photographer and editor, a wedding studio, Hyderabad |
| Part-time with a job | Software tester (full-time); wedding photographer on weekends |
If you also shoot video or edit films, say so. "Photography and wedding films" is a bigger business in the family's eyes, and it is usually true.
A family business counts too. Many studios in small towns were started by a father in the 1990s. "Runs the family studio (started by father in 1994), Kumbakonam" shows a settled business with a history, and elders like that.
Studio, Team and Equipment
A studio with a shop front reads as stable. If you have one, write the area: "Studio near the bus stand, Tirunelveli".
If you work from home, that is fine. Write the team instead: "Works with a team of three for weddings". A team tells the family you get enough bookings to pay other people.
Do not list cameras and lenses. Your friends will understand "Sony A7 IV and two primes". An uncle in Erode will not, and it reads like showing off.
Writing Income When Bookings Go Up and Down
Photography income is seasonal, so write a yearly figure. A monthly figure from December looks very different from one in July.
Good ways to write it:
- "₹6 to 8 lakh per year (average of the last 3 years)"
- "About ₹45,000 per month on average"
- "Studio turnover ₹20 lakh, personal income about ₹7 lakh"
The last one matters for studio owners. Turnover includes rent, staff and equipment, so give your own income separately. Our guide on salary in a marriage biodata explains why a range is safer than an exact figure.
If income is a weak point right now, you can leave Annual Income out and keep the conversation for the meeting. A blank is better than a figure you cannot back up with bank statements.
The Wedding Season and Travel
This is the line families most want and photographers most often skip.
Wedding photographers are busiest on muhurtham dates. In Tamil Nadu that often means Vaikasi, Aavani and Thai. In North India, the season from November to February is packed. You may work every weekend and many weekdays in those months, and travel to other towns or even abroad for destination weddings.
Write it plainly in About Me:
- "Busy during wedding months, often travelling for 3 to 4 days. Free most of the off-season."
- "Weekends are usually booked. I keep Mondays for family."
A family that knows this before the first meeting will not be upset later when you miss a cousin's function because you are shooting someone else's.
Portfolio and Instagram
Most photographers have an Instagram page, and a good one helps. Families are curious and will look.
Put the studio page, not your personal account, in Add Your Own Field: Field Name "Work", Details "Instagram: @thanjavurframes". Keep it to one handle. Your personal phone number should stay in Contact Details, not on a public page.

Sample Biodata for a Photographer Boy
This is a made-up person. Change every detail to your own.
| Field | Sample |
|---|---|
| Full Name | Karthik Raman |
| Date of Birth | 14 March 1995 |
| Height | 5 ft 8 in |
| Education | B.Sc Visual Communication, Loyola College, Chennai |
| Job / Occupation | Owner, wedding photography and films studio, Thanjavur, since 2018 |
| Annual Income | ₹7 to 9 lakh per year |
| Work (own field) | Instagram: @thanjavurframes |
| Father's Occupation | Retired, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board |
| About Me | I started my studio after college and now work with a team of four. In the wedding months I travel a lot, sometimes to Bengaluru or Singapore for shoots. In the off-season my days are normal and I am home most evenings. I like long bike rides and old Ilaiyaraaja songs. |
For a photographer girl, the same lines work. Many families will also want to know whether you plan to continue after marriage and whether you travel alone for shoots. Answer both in About Me if they apply.
Your Own Biodata Photo
You are a photographer, so people will judge your photo a little more. Keep it simple: natural light, a plain background, a normal smile. A heavily edited photo looks odd on a biodata. Our photoshoot guide is written for families hiring a photographer, but the shot list works for you too.
You can type these lines into the biodata maker, pick a design, and download it as a PDF or a JPG for WhatsApp.
Common questions
What Should a Photographer Write in the Occupation Field?
The kind of photography, studio or freelance, the town and the starting year. For example: "Candid wedding photographer, freelance, Coimbatore, since 2019".
How Does a Photographer Show a Stable Income?
Write a yearly range based on the last two or three years. If you own a studio, give your personal income, not the turnover.
Should I Mention That I Travel for Weddings?
Yes, in one line in About Me. Travel in the wedding months is the main lifestyle question families have about photographers.
Can I Put My Instagram Page in the Biodata?
Yes, the work page only, using Add Your Own Field. Do not add a personal account.
Is Photography a Good Profession for an Arranged Marriage Biodata?
Many families accept it happily when the biodata shows a running business and real income. The detail in the job line is what makes the difference.
