Punjabi Biodata for Marriage, Sikh and Hindu

A Punjabi biodata for marriage has the name, birth details, height, education, work and family, with the got and the native village. Sikh families usually leave out the kundli, while many Hindu Punjabi families keep rashi and manglik. Set the Biodata Language to Punjabi and every label prints in Gurmukhi.

What Goes in a Punjabi Biodata for Marriage?

A Punjabi rishta biodata has the same parts as any Indian biodata. Personal details at the top, then the family, then a contact number. In between, a Hindu Punjabi family may add rashi and manglik, and a Sikh family usually does not.

Three lines get read before anything else in Punjab: the got, the native village and the height. Families ask about the got to rule out a clash. The village, or pind, tells relatives where the family comes from. Height, in feet and inches, gets checked by everyone.

After that it is education, work and, more and more, which country. A large share of Punjabi rishtas now involve a boy or girl in Canada, the UK or Australia, so the abroad line needs care too.

Sikh or Hindu Punjabi, Two Common Versions

Both versions come from the same form. The Religion you choose decides most of the difference.

LineSikh biodataHindu Punjabi biodata

Horoscope sectionSwitches off when you choose SikhStays on, with rashi, nakshatra, lagna and manglik
GotOwn field, or in Caste / CommunityGotra row under Add More Details
Extra line families addAmritdhari or Keshdhari, turbanMother's got, and the family's Mata or kuldevi if they want

Khatri, Arora and Brahmin families are among the Hindu Punjabi communities that write a gotra and often a rashi. Many Jat Sikh, Ramgarhia and Khatri Sikh families write the got without a kundli. These are common patterns, not rules. Write what your family does.

For a Sikh biodata in detail, with Amritdhari and turban lines, see our Sikh marriage biodata page.

Got, Nanke Got and the Pind

Write the father's got the way the family says it: Sandhu, Grewal, Bhardwaj, Kaushal. Many families also check the mother's got, the nanke got, and some look at the grandmothers' gots too. If your family checks the nanke got, put it on the biodata. It saves a phone call.

On a Punjabi biodata, the Native Place row prints as ਜੱਦੀ ਪਿੰਡ (jaddi pind), the ancestral village. Write the village and district, like "Sudhar, Ludhiana", even if the family has lived in Delhi for thirty years.

Where does the got go in the form? Gotra is under Add More Details in the horoscope section. On a Sikh biodata that section is switched off, so add Got with Add Your Own Field in Personal Details. Nanke Got is also an own field, in Family Details. Add Maternal Uncle from Add More Details there and write the mama's name with his village.

Canada, UK and Australia Lines

For a boy or girl abroad, write the country, city and status in plain words. "Canada PR, Brampton" or "Study visa, Melbourne, course ends 2027" tells the other family exactly where things stand. Add Current City from Add More Details in Contact Details.

If the parents live in Punjab and the son is in Surrey, put the father as Contact Person with an Indian number. Families back home call that number first. Our note on a biodata for an NRI boy has more lines for visa and income.

How the Punjabi Setting Works

The site itself is in English. The Biodata Language box, first in "Top of the Biodata", controls only the printed biodata. Choose Punjabi there.

The labels, section titles and list values (rashi, Diet, Marital Status and so on) then print in Gurmukhi. Your typed details print exactly as you typed them. Typed in English, you get Gurmukhi labels with English details, which suits many families with relatives abroad. Want it all in Gurmukhi? Type with a Punjabi keyboard on your phone.

Dates print in numbers, 03-04-1997. The Punjabi option prints Gurmukhi only. There is no Shahmukhi version. A family that reads the Persian script can pick Urdu.

Any label can be renamed from the row's three-dot menu, for example ਕਿੱਤਾ to ਨੌਕਰੀ. The new name stays on the Punjabi copy only.

Blessing Lines and Titles

A Punjabi biodata starts with the Blessing Line on. For a Sikh biodata the Gurmukhi lines are:

  • ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
  • ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਹਿ ॥

For a Hindu Punjabi biodata there is ਜੈ ਮਾਤਾ ਦੀ in Gurmukhi, and under the Hindi heading lines such as ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ and ॥ जय माता दी ॥. Write My Own takes anything else.

Common Questions

Is There a Punjabi Biodata Format in Word?

Yes. After you download the PDF or the image, the done screen offers "Download Word File". It is a .docx of the same biodata and opens in Microsoft Word.

Can I Make a Punjabi Biodata for Free?

Yes. Each verified mobile number gets one biodata free, in any of 63 free designs. The free file has a small "Made free at hellobiodata.com" line at the bottom.

Should a Punjabi Biodata Have a Kundli?

It depends on the family. Most Sikh families do not match kundlis, and choosing Sikh switches the horoscope section off. Many Hindu Punjabi families keep rashi, nakshatra and manglik on the biodata.

How Do I Write Got and Nanke Got?

Write the father's got in the Gotra row, or as your own field named Got on a Sikh biodata. Add Nanke Got as your own field in Family Details with the mother's got.

Can I Print the Biodata in Shahmukhi?

No. Our Punjabi option prints Gurmukhi. If the family reads the Persian script, Urdu is the closest of our 12 languages.

Punjabi or English for a Rishta in Canada?

Families abroad mostly send English. Elders in the village often like Gurmukhi. Fill the form once, download one copy, switch the Biodata Language and download the other.
