Marriage Biodata for an NRI Boy

Marriage Biodata for an NRI Boy

An NRI boy's marriage biodata should state six things exactly: the city and country, the visa or citizenship status, the job, the salary in local currency, the marital status, and whether a wife can join and work there. A girl's family checks these lines before anything else, because everyone in India has heard of an NRI marriage that went wrong. Exact lines earn trust faster than impressive ones.

This page is for boys working or studying abroad, and for parents in India writing the biodata for a son overseas.

What a Girl's Family Is Really Checking

An NRI proposal brings two reactions in the girl's house. One is interest, because a settled boy abroad is a good match for many families. The other is worry. The girl will be far from home, in a country where her parents know nobody, and her visa will often depend on her husband's.

So the girl's father, uncle or cousin abroad will read the biodata looking for anything vague. "Settled in USA." "Good package." "Own house." Each of these invites a question, and a vague answer to that question can end the talks.

The Six Lines to Write Exactly

LineVague (avoid)Exact (write this)
LocationSettled in USADallas, Texas, USA
StatusSettled abroadH-1B visa since 2021, green card in process
JobWorking in MNCSenior Software Engineer, payments company
SalaryGood packageUSD 150,000 per year
Marital status(left blank)Never Married
Wife's visa and workWife can comeWife would come on H-4. Can apply for work permit once my I-140 is approved

Marital Status is under Add More Details on our form, with four choices: Never Married, Divorced, Widowed and Awaiting Divorce. For an NRI boy, add it even if you have never married. Girls' families look for it, because a groom who turns out to be already married abroad is one of the best-known NRI fraud stories.

For the exact visa words by country, see our pages for the USA, the Gulf, Germany and New Zealand.

The Wife's Visa and Job, in One Honest Line

If the girl is working in India, this line decides the proposal more than salary does. A software engineer in Pune or a doctor in Lucknow will not give up her career without knowing whether she can work abroad.

The rule depends on your country and your own visa. In some countries a spouse can work at once. In others she needs her own work permit, or your salary must cross a limit before she can even join you. Find the rule for your exact visa on the government website and write what is true:

  • "Wife can join me and work from day one."
  • "Wife can join me. She would need her own work permit."
  • "Wife cannot join me on my present visa. Expect a change by 2027."

The third line feels hard to write. It is still better than a girl discovering it after the wedding.

Papers to Keep Ready

A careful girl's family will ask to see proof once talks are serious. Keep these ready on your phone:

  1. The visa or residence card page, or your passport with the visa.
  2. A recent employment letter on company letterhead.
  3. Two or three recent pay slips.
  4. If you were married before, the divorce decree or death certificate.

Do not put these on the biodata. Share them privately when the family asks. An honest boy loses nothing by showing them, and it tells the girl's side you have nothing to hide. Our NRI marriage fraud guide lists what families are advised to check, so you know what to expect.

About Me Lines for an NRI Boy

About Me holds up to 700 characters. Use it for the things a table cannot show: how you live, how often you come home, and what you expect from married life.

Example for a boy staying abroad: "I work as a mechanical engineer in Stuttgart and have lived in Germany since 2017. I share a flat with a friend and cook on weekends. I go home to Nagpur every Diwali. I plan to stay in Germany. My wife can join me and work here, and I will support her if she wants to study further."

Example for a boy returning to India: "I have worked in Riyadh since 2018. I plan to come back to Kozhikode by 2028 and set up a business with my brother. Till then, my wife can live with me in Riyadh or with my parents, as she prefers."

Avoid lines about "Indian values" or "traditional yet modern". They tell the girl's family nothing.

Family Details and Contact

Fill Family Details as usual, and give your father or mother as Contact Person with an Indian mobile number. Many girls' families prefer to speak with the boy's parents in India first, and it is easier for them to visit your home.

Our maker checks a mobile number by OTP before the first download, and only Indian (+91) numbers work. If you have no Indian SIM, your parents can verify with theirs.

Common questions

What Should an NRI Boy Write in His Marriage Biodata?

City and country, exact visa or citizenship status, job, salary in local currency, marital status, and whether his wife can join and work.

Should an NRI Boy Mention Marital Status If Never Married?

Yes. Write "Never Married". Girls' families look for this line, because a hidden earlier marriage abroad is a known NRI fraud pattern.

Should I Write Salary in Rupees?

Write it in the currency you are paid in. Add a rupee figure in brackets only if your parents want it, and mention living costs in About Me.

What Proof Will the Girl's Family Ask For?

Usually the visa or residence card, an employment letter and recent pay slips. Keep them ready and share them privately.

Can I Make the Biodata Without an Indian Mobile Number?

The OTP before the first download works only with +91 numbers. Your parents can verify with their number.
