Parsi Marriage Biodata Format
A Parsi marriage biodata is short and plain. It gives the name, age, height, education, job and city, then the family, plus one or two community lines such as "Navjote: Done" and Parsi or Irani Zoroastrian. Most Parsi biodatas carry no horoscope, and our form switches the horoscope off by itself when you choose Parsi.
What Goes in a Parsi Biodata for Marriage?
The other family wants to know who you are, where you study or work, where you live and which family you come from. Everything else can wait for the first meeting.
| Part | What to write | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Own name, father's name, surname | Zarine Rustom Contractor |
| Age and height | Date of birth and height | 3 May 1996, 5 ft 4 in |
| Religion and community | Parsi, and Parsi or Irani Zoroastrian | Parsi Zoroastrian |
| Navjote | One line | Done |
| Education | Degree and college | M.Com, Sydenham College |
| Work | Job and city | Tax consultant, Mumbai |
| Family | Parents' names and work, brothers and sisters | With the surname |
| Where the family lives | Colony or town | Dadar Parsi Colony, Mumbai |
| Contact | A phone number | A parent's number is fine |
Write the name the old way, own name then father's name then surname. Elders recognise families by it.
Navjote, Agiary and Anjuman
The navjote is the ceremony at which a Parsi child first puts on the sudreh and kusti and is received into the faith. For marriage, it is the religious line almost every Parsi family looks for. "Navjote: Done" is enough.
The agiary (fire temple) the family usually visits is optional. Write it only if the family has a close tie with it, such as the agiary in your own town. A practice line is optional too. "Wears sudreh-kusti" says something real. If you are not sure what to write, leave it out.
Our form has no Navjote or Agiary field. Add each one with Add Your Own Field in Personal Details.
Parsi or Irani, and the Town
Families from India's older Parsi community and Irani Zoroastrian families, whose ancestors came from Iran much later, sometimes like to know which background the other side is from. Write it simply in Caste / Community: "Parsi Zoroastrian" or "Irani Zoroastrian".
Our Caste / Community list has Parsi (typing Zoroastrian finds it too), and also Shahenshahi, Kadmi and Fasli for families who go by those calendars. Or type your own words, which print as typed.
The town or colony helps too. Navsari, Surat, Udvada or Dadar Parsi Colony places a family quickly, and the elders will often know a cousin or a neighbour.
Questions about who belongs to the community are personal and sometimes sensitive. A biodata does not need to argue them. Give the facts families will ask about anyway, and let the rest happen in person.
Education and Career
This is often the longest part of a Parsi biodata. One or two lines each:
- B.E. (Mechanical), VJTI. Design engineer in Pune.
- CA. Partner in the family's chartered accountancy firm, Fort, Mumbai.
- MBBS, MD (Paediatrics). Consultant at a hospital in Mumbai.
Many Parsi families have children in Toronto, London or Auckland. If you live abroad, say where, and whether you plan to stay. The other family will want to know before anything else.
No Horoscope on a Parsi Biodata
Most Parsi families do not match horoscopes. In our form, choosing Parsi as the Religion switches "Include horoscope on the biodata" off by itself, so no rasi or nakshatra prints. Keep the date of birth, since everyone asks for the age. Time of Birth can stay empty.
What Prints at the Top
There is no Parsi symbol in our list. The 11 symbols are Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian, Jain and Buddhist ones, and choosing Parsi does not swap in a new one. Most Parsi families switch God / Symbol off at the top of the form, and the biodata then starts with just the title.
On an English biodata the Blessing Line starts switched off, which suits a Parsi biodata. If the family wants a line, choose Write My Own and type it. The Biodata Title can stay "Marriage Biodata" or change to plain "Biodata".

English or Gujarati?
Most Parsi families send the biodata in English. Many speak Gujarati at home, though, and some elders prefer it. Choose Gujarati as the biodata language and the labels print in Gujarati script, with the Religion row reading પારસી. You can still type every detail in English. The Gujarati biodata page shows the Gujarati labels.
Minimum Age for a Parsi Marriage
The Parsi Marriage and Divorce Act, 1936 sets the conditions in section 3. The marriage is solemnised by the Ashirvad ceremony, by a priest, with two Parsi witnesses besides the priest, and the minimum age is 21 for the groom and 18 for the bride.
