Maheshwari Biodata Format for Marriage

A Maheshwari biodata format for marriage is built around the khamp, the family line that works like a gotra. Write your own khamp, the mother's khamp, the native village in Rajasthan, the current city and the family business, plus a clear photo. Families avoid a match within the same khamp, so it goes near the top.

What Goes in a Maheshwari Biodata for Marriage?

The base is the same as any Hindu biodata: name, birth details, height, education, work, parents, brothers and sisters, contact. Maheshwari families then look for four lines. The khamp, the mother's khamp, the native village and the business.

Most biodatas in Maheshwari samaj groups also carry a photo. One clear, recent photo is enough.

Khamp, Nakh and the 72 Family Lines

The Maheshwari community traces itself to 72 family lines from Rajasthan, and those lines are the khamps. A khamp works the way a gotra does for other Hindus. Two people of the same khamp are counted as one family and do not marry. The Wikipedia article on the Maheshwari community describes the 72 lines and their rule of marrying outside one's own.

In many families the khamp and the surname are the same: Rathi, Mundra, Daga, Mohta, Bhattad, Kabra, Malpani and Somani are both. Write it on its own line anyway. A few surnames are shared across khamps, and the other side will want to be sure.

The nakh is a smaller branch inside the khamp. Not every family uses it. If yours does, write it on the next line.

Spellings differ (khamp, khanp, khaanp). Use the one on your family's wedding cards.

The Mother's Khamp

Many Maheshwari families avoid the mother's khamp too, and some also avoid the nani's. If your family follows that rule, put the mother's khamp on the biodata. It saves a call from the other side and a visit that cannot go anywhere.

Native Village, Current City and Business

The native village is the family's place in Rajasthan, with tehsil and district. Write it even if the family has been in Hyderabad, Pune, Surat or Kolkata for three generations. Elders still place a family by its village.

Then the current city, and whether the house is owned.

Business is common in Maheshwari families, so write it in a way a stranger can picture:

  • Cotton yarn trading and a spinning unit, Bhilwara (third generation)
  • Chartered accountant with a Big Four firm, Mumbai. Father runs a grain wholesale business.
  • Software engineer, Pune. Family runs a pharmacy chain in Nagpur.

Annual Income is optional. Some families write a range and others keep it for the first talk.

About MeJoined the family business after CA in 2021 and handles exports. Looking for an educated Maheshwari girl, khamp other than Rathi and Kabra. Kundli matching required.

For a girl, the same lines work. Families also like to read whether she plans to work after marriage.

Kundli Lines

Most Maheshwari families match the kundli before a meeting. Our form works out the rasi, nakshatra and lagna from the date, time and place of birth, so get the birth time right. Chevvai / Manglik stays empty until you choose No, Yes, Partial or Don't Know yourself.

Jai Mahesh at the Top

The name Maheshwari comes from Mahesh, another name for Shiva, and many families mark Mahesh Navami as the community's own day. Some print "Jai Mahesh" on the biodata.

There is no Jai Mahesh line in our built-in list. Choose Write My Own under Blessing Line and type "॥ जय महेश ॥" or "Jai Mahesh". If you prefer Ganpati, the Hindi list has ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥, and the Ganesha symbol comes in when you choose Hindu as the Religion.

Maheshwari Biodata with Photo

Every design has one passport-style photo box. Upload a recent photo with a plain background, then drag and zoom it to fit the frame. Families who would rather share the photo later can leave it out.

Maheshwari Biodata WhatsApp Groups

Many Maheshwari sabhas and city associations run biodata WhatsApp groups, and some print a parichay booklet for their sammelan. We do not run any group. Ask the samaj office in your city, or a relative who is already a member, for the admin's number.

Most admins want one page with a photo and a parent's number. Download the image for the group and keep the PDF for printing. If you do not want the girl's own number going round, put her father as Contact Person.

Hindi or English?

Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh families often print in Hindi, and families in Mumbai, Hyderabad or Bengaluru in English. Type the details in English and choose the biodata language. On a Hindi biodata the labels print in Devanagari: Native Place, for example, prints as मूल निवास. A field you add yourself can be named "खांप" in Hindi, and it prints as typed.
