Agarwal Biodata for Marriage
An Agarwal samaj biodata for marriage needs four lines beyond the basics. The gotra (Garg, Goyal, Bansal, Mittal, Singhal or another of the 18), the mother's gotra, the native place and the family business or job. Agarwal families avoid a match within the same gotra, and many also avoid the mother's, so both go near the top.
What Goes in an Agarwal Biodata for Marriage?
The usual details first: name, date, time and place of birth, height, education, job, parents, brothers and sisters, and a phone number. Then the lines Agarwal families read before anything else. Gotra. Mother's gotra. Native place. Business.
Get those four right and the biodata answers the first round of questions on its own.
Why the Gotra Is Often the Surname Too
Agarwal families trace their origin to Maharaja Agrasen and to Agroha, near Hisar in Haryana. The community's gotras come from that tradition and not from the rishi list that Brahmin families use. So an Agarwal gotra is often the surname as well. A Mittal family is of Mittal gotra, a Goyal family of Goyal gotra.
The catch is that many families use "Agarwal" or "Gupta" as the surname in daily life. They still have a gotra, and the biodata is where it has to be spelt out.
The 18 Agarwal Gotras
Tradition gives the Agarwal community seventeen and a half gotras, spoken of as 18. The Wikipedia article on the Agrawal community tells the stories behind the "half", and notes that calling any gotra half is taken as an insult. No biodata ever does.
The names on most samaj lists are Airan, Bansal, Bhandal, Bindal, Dharan, Garg, Goyal, Goyan (Gangal), Jindal, Kansal, Kuchhal, Madhukul, Mangal, Mittal, Nangal, Singhal, Tayal and Tingal. Spellings vary a lot: Goel or Goyal, Mittal or Mital, Singhal or Singla. Write your gotra the way it is printed on your family's wedding cards.

Mother's Gotra, and Sometimes Dadi and Nani
Many Agarwal families avoid the mother's gotra as well as the father's. Some also avoid the dadi's and the nani's. If your family follows any of this, put the mother's gotra on the biodata.
It saves the other family a call. It also saves both families a visit that cannot go anywhere.
Writing the Business, Income and Property
Business is common in Agarwal families, and the line needs detail:
- Steel trading and a rolling mill, Mandi Gobindgarh (third generation)
- Chartered accountant with a Big Four firm, Delhi. Father runs a cloth wholesale shop in Chandni Chowk.
- Software engineer in Bengaluru. Family runs a pharmacy in Agra.
Annual Income is optional. Some families write a figure or a range, and others keep it for the first meeting. A line about property (own house, shop, land) is common on North Indian biodatas, and Property is a ready field under Add More Details in Family Details.

Kundli and Manglik
Most Agarwal families match the kundli before meeting, for gun milan and manglik at least. Our form works out the rasi, nakshatra, lagna, dasa and tithi from the birth details. Chevvai / Manglik is never filled by itself, so choose it the way your panditji has told you.
Agarwal Jain Families
Many Agarwal families are Jain. Choose Jain as the Religion and Agarwal Jain in Caste / Community, and pick Jain Food in Diet if it applies. The Jain biodata page explains the Jain header lines and the sect line.
Header Line
Choose Hindu as the Religion and the Ganesha symbol comes in by itself. In Hindi, the Blessing Line list offers ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥, ॥ ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ and ॥ जय माता दी ॥, among others.
Some Agarwal families like a line for Maharaja Agrasen at the top. It is not in our list. Choose Write My Own and type it, in Hindi or English letters.
Agarwal Samaj Biodata Groups
Agarwal sabhas in many cities hold parichay sammelans and print biodata booklets, and most also run WhatsApp groups. We do not run any of them. Ask the Agarwal samaj office in your city, or a relative who is already a member, for the group admin's number.
Most admins want one page with a clear photo and a parent's phone number. Download the image for the group and keep the PDF for the printed booklet.
Hindi or English?
Families in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh often print in Hindi. Families in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru mostly send English. Type the details in English and choose the biodata language. On a Hindi biodata the labels print in Devanagari (Gotra as गोत्र, Native Place as मूल निवास), and your typed details stay as typed.
