Jat Marriage Biodata Format

A Jat marriage biodata lists more than one gotra. Most Jat families avoid a match in their own gotra and the mother's, and many also avoid the dadi's and nani's, so all of them go near the top with the village. Make yours here free, with each gotra on its own clear line.

What Goes in a Jat Biodata for Marriage?

For most Hindu families one gotra line is enough. For Jat families in Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Punjab, it is not. The first thing an elder in Rohtak or Jhunjhunu looks for is the list of gots. If any of them repeats on both sides, the talk usually stops there, before anyone looks at the photo.

So a Jat biodata carries, near the top:

  • your own gotra (the father's)
  • the mother's gotra
  • the dadi's gotra, which is the father's mother's
  • the nani's gotra, which is the mother's mother's, if your family checks it
  • the village with tehsil and district

Then come the usual lines: education, job, the family, land if any, and the contact number.

The Four Gotras, Line by Line

Write each gotra on its own line and label it clearly. The usual order is own, mother's, dadi's, nani's.

LineWhose gotra it is
GotraThe father's, which is the person's own
Mother's GotraThe mother's father's
Dadi's GotraThe father's mother's father's
Nani's GotraThe mother's mother's father's

Not every family checks all four. Some check three and some only two. Write the ones your family follows and stop there.

In many Jat families the gotra is also the surname: Malik, Dahiya, Sangwan, Hooda, Sehrawat, Dalal, Ahlawat and Punia, to name a few. Write the gotra line anyway. A cousin on the other side may use a different surname.

How to Put Four Gotras on Our Form

Our form has one Gotra field, under Add More Details in the horoscope section. The other three go in with Add Your Own Field. Each own field has a Field Name and Details, and the name can be up to 40 characters, so "Mother's Gotra" or "Dadi's Gotra" fits easily.

Many Jat families do not match kundlis. If you switch off "Include horoscope on the biodata", the Gotra field in that section is hidden too. Then add all four as your own fields at the end of Personal Details, so they print together in one block. If a field lands in the wrong place, its three-dot menu has Move Up and Move Down.

Village and Khap

Many Jat families also avoid a match within their own village and, in some areas, within the villages around it or the villages of the same khap. Write the village with tehsil and district, so the other side can check in a minute: "Village Butana, Gohana tehsil, Sonipat district". Native Place in Family Details is the right place for it.

The law is clear on one point. In Shakti Vahini v. Union of India (27 March 2018), the Supreme Court held that no khap or other assembly can stop two adults who want to marry. The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 itself bars close relatives, not gotras.

Our page on same gotra marriage explains the legal side. The gotra lines on a biodata are about family custom, and each family decides how far it follows it.

Land, Service and Sports

Jat biodatas often give land in acres and the family's service record, and families read both closely. Write them plainly:

  • Agriculture, 18 acres of wheat and paddy, Jind district
  • Father: Subedar (retired), Jat Regiment. Uncle: SI, Delhi Police
  • Own house in Rohtak and in the village

Land goes in the Property chip under Add More Details in Family Details. Government jobs and the forces deserve full detail. Give the rank and the posting. "Inspector, Haryana Police, posted in Panipat" says much more than "government job". A national medal or a sports quota job belongs on the biodata too.

A Filled Jat Marriage Biodata Format for a Girl

This girl and her family are made up, and the number is masked. Her family does not match kundlis, so the horoscope section is switched off and all four gotras are her own fields.

Kundli or No Kundli?

Practice varies. Some Jat families rely mainly on the gotra check and a meeting between the families. Others also check gun milan and manglik. If yours does, keep the horoscope section on. The form fills rashi, nakshatra and lagna from the date, time and place of birth, and you pick the manglik status yourself from No, Yes, Partial or Don't Know.

If not, switch it off and write "Kundli not required" at the end of About Me, so nobody asks for it.

Header Line and Language

Many Hindu Jat families print ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ at the top, and many print nothing at all. The Hindi list also has ॥ ॐ ॥. Arya Samaji families who write Om another way can tap Write My Own and type it.

Hindi and English are both common. Type the details in English and choose the print language. In Hindi the labels print in Devanagari, and the names and gotras print as you typed them. The Hindi marriage biodata page shows the Hindi print.

Sikh Jatt families can use the same form with Religion as Sikh and Jat Sikh in Caste / Community. Our Sikh marriage biodata page covers the Sikh lines.
