The 2026-27 Hindu wedding season in North India opens on Saturday, 21 November 2026, the day after Dev Uthani Ekadashi. After that, Drik Panchang lists no wedding date until 10 November 2027.

When Does the 2026-27 Season Start?
On Saturday, 21 November 2026. Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which ends Chaturmas, falls on 20 November, and Drik Panchang marks that day as partly inside Chaturmas. The first window is 21 November from 6:48 am to 12:08 am, in Revati nakshatra. Tulsi Vivah falls on the same day.
The first stretch is short. There are only 11 dates before Kharmas begins with Dhanu Sankranti on 16 December 2026, the last of them on 12 December.
The Kharmas Pause
Kharmas is the solar month when the Sun is in Dhanu (mid-December to mid-January) or Meena (mid-March to mid-April). North Indian panchangs list no weddings in either. In 2027 the dates are:
| Kharmas | Dates | First date after it |
|---|---|---|
| Dhanu | 16 December 2026 to 14 January 2027 | 15 January 2027 |
| Meena | 15 March to 14 April 2027 | 18 April 2027 |
Holashtak, the eight days before Holi, falls from 16 to 21 March 2027, inside Meena Kharmas this time. Our Kharmas post has the last and first dates around both.
The Chaturmas Gap Explained
The long gap is from 13 July to 9 November 2027. Families searching "why no marriage muhurat in August, September, October" are looking at this. Several rules close the same months, one on top of another:
| Rule | 2027 dates |
|---|---|
| Chaturmas | 14 July (Devshayani Ekadashi) to 10 November (Dev Uthani Ekadashi) |
| Venus set (Shukra asta) | 21 July to 9 September |
| Jupiter set (Guru asta) | 17 August to 13 September |
| Pitru Paksha | 16 to 29 September |
| Sun in Karka, Simha and Kanya | 17 July to 17 October |
Dates are from Drik Panchang for New Delhi. Prokerala's 2027 calendar also marks August, September and October as "No Muhurt". Our posts on August 2027 and September 2027 give the reason Drik Panchang shows for each day, and our page on Chaturmas explains the period itself.
Regional Seasons in North, South, East and West
The table above follows the North Indian calendar. Other regions use their own, and the seasons shift.
| Region | Main wedding months | Months usually avoided |
|---|---|---|
| North India | Mid-November to mid-December, mid-January to mid-March, mid-April to early July | Kharmas, Holashtak, Chaturmas |
| Maharashtra and Gujarat | After Tulsi Vivah, then the same open stretches | Chaturmas, Kharmas |
| Tamil Nadu | Thai, Maasi, Chithirai, Vaikasi, Aani, Avani, Aippasi, Karthigai | Aadi, Purattasi, Margazhi |
| Andhra Pradesh and Telangana | Karthika, Magha, Phalguna, Vaisakha, Jyeshtha, Sravana | Ashada, Dhanurmasam |
| Kerala | Chingam above all, and the open months of the year | Karkidakam |
| West Bengal | Agrahayan, Magh, Falgun, Boishakh, Jyoishtho, Asharh | Poush, Chaitra, Bhadro |
The south does not follow the North Indian Chaturmas rule in full, so Tamil and Telugu families often have wedding dates in August and September when the North has none. 2027 is unusual, because Venus is set from 21 July to 9 September, and many southern purohits respect that too.
How big is the southern season? Kerala gives one clear number. At the Guruvayur temple, 420 weddings were held on a single day, Sunday 13 September 2026, the last Sunday of Chingam, as reported by Kerala Kaumudi. The earlier record, 416, had been set on 23 August 2026, also in Chingam.
Muslim, Christian and Sikh families do not follow the muhurat calendar at all. Their seasons follow their own calendars, family holidays and the weather. Our nikah dates 2027 page covers the Islamic months.
How Big Is the Wedding Season?
The best-known estimates come from the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). For the season from 1 November to 14 December 2025, CAIT's research arm projected about 46 lakh weddings across India and about ₹6.5 lakh crore of wedding-related trade, from a survey in 75 cities. It put Delhi alone at about 4.8 lakh weddings and ₹1.8 lakh crore. These figures were reported by Angel One on 31 October 2025.
CAIT said the number of weddings was slightly below the 48 lakh it counted for 2024, and that the rise in trade came from higher spending per wedding. These are trader estimates, not a census. We have not seen a CAIT estimate for the 2026 season yet.
Can Court Marriage Be Done When There Is No Muhurat?
Yes. Registration under the Hindu Marriage Act or the Special Marriage Act does not follow the panchang, and the registrar's office works on government working days. Many couples register in the off-season and hold the religious ceremony once the season opens. Our court marriage guide explains the steps.
Off-Season Is Biodata Season
The closed months are when most matches are made. Families send biodatas, match kundlis and hold the first meetings in Chaturmas and Kharmas, so that the date can be fixed as soon as the season opens.
If you are starting now, you can make a marriage biodata with rasi, nakshatra and lagna worked out from the birth details, and share it as a PDF or a JPG.
