A WhatsApp wedding invitation message should carry the couple's names, the date and time, and the venue with a Google Maps link. Attach the card as a JPG or PDF. Send it personally to each person, not to a big group, and follow it with a phone call for elders.
The samples below are short, so they read well on a phone screen. Change the names, dates and places. The ones here are made up.
Is a WhatsApp Invite Acceptable?
For friends, colleagues and relatives you are not very close to, yes. Most families now send the card on WhatsApp to them, and nobody minds.
For elders and close family, the WhatsApp message should come after a call or a visit, never in its place. A chachi in Indore who gets only a forwarded image will remember it at every family function for the next ten years.

A few rules make a WhatsApp invite feel personal:
- Message each person separately, with their name in the first line. "Dear Sharma uncle" reads very differently from a forward.
- Do not add 300 people to a new group to send one card. Their numbers become visible to everyone in it.
- A WhatsApp broadcast list sends separate chats, but it only reaches people who have saved your number. Others get nothing, and you get no warning.
- Send between 9 am and 9 pm. A card at 11:45 pm feels like an afterthought.
Messages for Close Family
These go after the phone call, so the message can be warm and detailed.
Namaste Mami. As we spoke on the phone, Divya's wedding is on Saturday, 12 December 2026 at Sri Kamakshi Kalyana Mandapam, Mannargudi. Muhurtham is at 9:10 am. Please come a day early with the family, we have kept rooms for you at the hall. The card is attached. Location: (Maps link)

Messages for Friends
Friends want the date, the place and whether there is a party. Keep it light.
Hi Neha. I am getting married, finally. Saturday, 12 December 2026, Mannargudi. Sangeet is on Friday night and you have to dance. Card attached. Tell me by 25 November if you need a room.

Messages for Colleagues
Keep office messages polite and short. Send them personally, or on the team chat if your office does that.
Dear team, I am getting married on Sunday, 24 January 2027 in Pune. The reception is at 7 pm at Hotel Shreyas, Apte Road, and I would be happy to see you all there. The card is attached. I will be on leave from 20 January to 5 February.
For your manager, a separate message:
Good morning sir. I am getting married on Sunday, 24 January 2027 in Pune, and I would be glad if you and your family could attend the reception that evening at 7 pm. The card is attached. I will share my leave plan by email.
Hindi and Hinglish Messages
Most North Indian families send the invite in Hinglish, typed in English letters. For elders who read Hindi, the Devanagari version works better.
Hinglish, for relatives:
Pranam Bua ji. Aapke aashirvaad se Ankit ka shubh vivah Pooja ke saath Ravivar, 24 January 2027 ko Kanpur mein hona tay hua hai. Tilak Shukravar, 22 January ko hai. Aap sab parivar sahit zaroor padharein. Card saath mein bhej rahe hain.
Hinglish, for friends:
Bhai, shaadi pakki. 24 January 2027, Ravivar, Kanpur. Baraat mein naachna compulsory hai. Card bhej raha hoon, date block kar le.

Reminder Messages
Send one reminder two or three days before, and the location again on the morning of the wedding. More than that starts to feel like a bank SMS.
Two days before:
Hi Neha, just a reminder. The wedding is this Saturday, 12 December 2026. Sangeet on Friday at 7 pm, muhurtham on Saturday at 9:10 am. Do call if you need anything on the way.
On the morning:
Good morning. The muhurtham is at 9:10 am today at Sri Kamakshi Kalyana Mandapam. Here is the location again: (Maps link). Parking is behind the hall.
For guests coming by train, add the station and who will pick them up: "Ramesh anna will be at Mannargudi bus stand at 6 am, his number is 98xxxxxx10."
Which E-Invite Format to Send
Pick the format by who is receiving it. Older relatives often open images easily and PDFs less easily.

A safe plan is to send the JPG of the main card first, then the PDF for those who want the full programme.
Never send an invite as an app file, and never open one. Fake "wedding invitations" sent as APK files have been used to put malware on phones and read bank OTPs.
In November 2025, the Himachal Pradesh cyber police warned that genuine invitations come as JPG images or PDF files, never as APK links, as The Tribune reported. If you lose money this way, call the cyber crime helpline 1930 or report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
Tell elders in the family about this too. A message that says "Shaadi card.apk" is a scam, even when it comes from a known number.
