A text biodata for WhatsApp is the same details as a printed biodata, typed as short lines in a message: name, birth details, education, job, family, native place and a contact number. Put each field on its own line, make the field names bold with asterisks, and keep it under 20 lines. Copy one of the formats below and replace the details.
A text biodata is handy for community groups and quick forwards. For the family you are serious about, follow it up with a proper PDF and photo.
When a Text Biodata Works Better than a PDF
A text message opens instantly on any phone, even a basic one. It can be read without downloading anything, and searched later in the chat.
| Situation | Send |
|---|---|
| Posting in a community or caste WhatsApp group | Short text |
| An elder with an old phone that struggles with PDFs | Text, then a JPG |
| A broker who forwards to many families | Text and the PDF |
| A family that has shown interest | PDF and photo |
| The astrologer | PDF, with the horoscope |
A PDF in a proper marriage biodata format looks better, holds the photo and prints well. A text message is quicker to read. Most families end up sending both.
WhatsApp Formatting, the Short Version
WhatsApp's help page on formatting messages lists the symbols. These are the ones a biodata needs:
| You type | It shows as |
|---|---|
| *Name* | Name in bold |
| _Hindu_ | Hindu in italics |
| - text at the start of a line | A bulleted line |
| 1. text at the start of a line | A numbered line |
Put the asterisks right against the word, with no space inside. "*Name:*" works. "* Name *" does not.
Avoid emojis in a biodata message. Flowers and rings look cheerful in a group, but they make the message harder for elders to read and look odd when forwarded to the astrologer.
Copy-Paste Format in English
Replace everything after each colon. The details here are made up.
- *Marriage Biodata*
- *Name:* Ananya Sharma
- *Date of Birth:* 18 May 1997, 7:10 am

When you paste this into WhatsApp, remove the "- " at the start of each line if you do not want bullets. Most families prefer plain lines.
Copy-Paste Format in Hindi
Hindi-speaking families often prefer the field names in Devanagari. The details can stay in English or Hindi.
- *शादी का बायोडाटा*

Ask someone at home who writes Hindi well to check the spellings before you send it widely.
Short 10-Line Version for Groups
Large groups move fast, and long messages get scrolled past. This version fits on one phone screen.
- *Girl, 29, Tamil Brahmin (Iyer)*
- B.E., software engineer, Chennai
- Born 3 Feb 1997, Thanjavur
- Rasi Kanni, star Hastham
- 5 ft 2 in, vegetarian
- Father retired from BHEL, mother homemaker
- 1 elder brother, married, in Bengaluru
- Looking for: working boy, Chennai or Bengaluru
- Contact: mother, 94XXX XXXXX
- Full biodata and photo on request
The last line matters. It lets you send the PDF and photo only to families who reply, not to the whole group.
Text Format for a Muslim Rishta
Muslim families usually leave out the horoscope and add the sect and the family's roots. A common layout, with made-up details:
- *786*
- *Rishta for our daughter*
- *Name:* Ayesha Khan
- *Age:* 26 (born 14 August 1999)
- *Height:* 5 ft 2 in
- *Sect:* Sunni
- *Education:* B.Pharm
- *Job:* Pharmacist, Lucknow
- *Father:* Imran Khan, retired from UP Power Corporation
- *Mother:* Shabana Khan, homemaker
- *Siblings:* 2 brothers (1 married)
- *Family roots:* Rampur
- *Contact:* Father, 99XXX XXXXX
Some families write "Bismillah" at the top instead of 786, and some add the maslak, such as Deobandi or Barelvi. Follow what your family and community usually write.
Changes for Different Communities
The format stays the same. A few lines change.
| Community | Usually add | Usually leave out |
|---|---|---|
| Hindu, North India | Gotra, rashi, nakshatra, manglik | Nothing in particular |
| Hindu, Tamil or Telugu | Rasi, natchathiram, padam, lagnam | Manglik is often written as chevvai dosham |
| Muslim | Sect or maslak, family's native place, 786 at the top | Horoscope lines |
| Christian | Denomination and parish church | Horoscope lines |
| Sikh | Got, and whether Amritdhari or Keshdhari | Rashi and manglik, in many families |
| Jain | Sect (Shwetambar or Digambar), diet | Varies by family |
Keep One Master Copy of the Text
Type the text once, check it, and save it in your phone's notes app or send it to yourself on WhatsApp. Copy from there every time.
Why? Families who retype the biodata for each group end up with three versions, one with the wrong height and one with an old phone number. When a detail changes, like a new job, fix the master copy first and delete the old messages you forwarded where you can.
Text First, PDF Next
A text message cannot hold a photo in the same bubble, and it looks different on every phone. Once a family replies with interest, send the proper biodata as a PDF document so it prints well and stays the same everywhere.
Our biodata maker gives you an A4 PDF and a single JPG that holds every page, ready to forward. It does not produce a text version, so keep your text message in your phone's notes. You can make the PDF version here. Our guide on sending a biodata on WhatsApp covers the message to send with it.
Common questions
How Do I Make Bold Text in WhatsApp?
Put an asterisk on both sides of the word, with no space inside: *Name*. It turns bold after you send it.
Can I Put My Biodata as a WhatsApp Status?
You can, but every contact who can see your status will see it, including office colleagues and old classmates. A status also disappears after 24 hours. A direct message or a group post is more private.
Should I Send Text or a PDF?
Send short text to groups and brokers, and the PDF to families who show interest. The PDF carries the photo and prints properly.
How Long Should a WhatsApp Biodata Be?
Ten to twenty lines. If it needs more, it belongs in a PDF.
Is It Safe to Post a Biodata in a WhatsApp Group?
Post only what you are comfortable with strangers seeing. Leave out the full address and the photo in large groups, and give a parent's number. If someone misuses your biodata or photo, you can report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
