How to Make a Marriage Biodata in Canva

To make a marriage biodata in Canva, search "biodata" in Canva's templates, pick an A4 one, replace each sample line with your own details, swap in your photo and download it as a PDF. It is free if every element you keep is free. Look out for the small crown mark, which means a paid element, and for decorative fonts that cannot show Hindi or Tamil letters.

Plan for 30 to 60 minutes the first time, longer on a phone.

Is Canva a Good Choice for a Biodata?

Canva is a general design app. It is very good for decorative layouts and gives you full control over colours, borders and fonts.

The catch is that nothing in Canva knows what a biodata is. Every line is a separate text box that you type into and line up by hand. If the sample says "Engineer" and your son is a "Senior Process Engineer, Reliance, Jamnagar", the box overflows and the lines below shift. Rasi and nakshatra you must look up yourself.

If you enjoy design work and have a laptop, Canva gives a good result. If you are a parent on a phone in a hurry, a form-based biodata maker is quicker.

Finding a Biodata Template in Canva

Open Canva, go to Templates and search for "marriage biodata" or "biodata". You will see A4 portrait designs in many styles, from plain ones to heavy floral and temple borders. Before you pick one, check it against the usual marriage biodata format, so no section is missing.

Before choosing, check three things in the preview:

• The page size says A4 (210 by 297 mm). Some "biodata" templates are made for Instagram and are square.
• There is a photo frame, and it is roughly passport shaped.
• There are enough lines for your family details. Many templates have room for only one sibling.

Templates with a crown on the thumbnail are paid. Free templates can still contain a few paid elements inside, so check again after opening.

Step by Step on a Laptop

1. Open the template and tap "Customize this template".
2. Click each sample line and type your detail. Keep the field names (Date of Birth, Native Place) as they are, or change them to match what your family prefers.
3. Delete lines you do not need, like Weight or Complexion, then move the rest up so there is no gap.
4. Drag your photo from the Uploads panel onto the photo frame. It will crop to fit. Double-click to adjust.
5. Change the symbol at the top if needed. Search Elements for "Ganesha", "Om", "786" or "cross". Check that the one you pick has no crown.
6. Zoom to 100% and read every line.
7. Download as PDF.

Keep one font for the details and at most one more for headings. Templates often mix three or four fonts, which looks crowded once real text goes in.

Adding a Photo, Header and Table

The photo should be a recent, clear face-and-shoulders shot. Drop it into the frame and double-click it to move the face to the centre. A frame about 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm on an A4 page looks right.

For the details, a two-column table is easier to keep straight than separate text boxes. Canva has a Table element. Put field names in the left column and your details in the right. When a detail is long, the row grows and the rest of the table moves with it.

Hindi, Marathi and Tamil Fonts in Canva

You can type in Indian scripts in Canva. On a phone, switch your keyboard to Hindi or Tamil. On Android, Google's help page on typing in a different language shows how to add one to Gboard. On a laptop, use your system's Hindi or Tamil keyboard, or type in another app and paste.

The common problem is the font. Many decorative English fonts in templates have no Devanagari or Tamil letters, so your text shows as empty boxes or falls back to a plain font that does not match. Select the text and choose a font that supports your script. Search the font list for "Devanagari", "Tamil" or "Hind" to see options.

Read the result carefully. Joined letters (like क्ष or ஸ்ரீ) sometimes break in fonts that only partly support a script. If a word looks wrong, try another font.

Downloading the PDF on the Free Plan

Canva's help page on downloading designs explains the steps: Share, then Download, choose the file type, then Download. It also says that if your design has premium elements, you must buy a licence for them before you can download.

For a biodata, choose PDF. If you plan to print, the PDF Print option keeps the text sharp.

Download a PNG or JPG as well if relatives will view it only on WhatsApp. One image is easier for elders to open than a PDF. For a two-page design, Canva downloads one image per page.

Using Canva on a Phone

The Canva app works on Android and iPhone, and all the steps above are possible. It is slow going for a biodata, though. Text boxes are small to tap, and moving one line often moves the wrong one.

If you must use the phone, choose the simplest template you can find, with fewer boxes to fix.

A form-based maker asks for each detail in order and places it on the design for you. It also works out rasi, nakshatra and lagna from the birth details, which Canva cannot do.
