Bengali Marriage Biodata Format, in Bangla or English

A Bengali marriage biodata format, the biyer biodata, has the person's details, the kosthi lines (rashi, nakshatra, often the gan), and the family with gotra and adi bari. Type the details in English or Bangla and set the Biodata Language to Bengali. Every label then prints in Bangla script.

What Goes in a Bengali Marriage Biodata Format?

A Bengali biodata for marriage opens with a line such as শ্রী শ্রী প্রজাপতয়ে নমঃ, the Prajapati blessing that also tops many Bengali wedding cards. Under it sit the title বিয়ের বায়োডাটা (biyer biodata) and the photo.

Then come four parts. The patro or patri's own details first: name, date, time and place of birth, height, education and work. The kosthi part next. After that the family, and a contact number at the end.

Bengali families read the family part almost as closely as the first one. Who the father is, where the mama bari is, which district the family came from. So give it time.

Gotra, Gan and the Kosthi Lines

Most Bengali Hindu families still match the kosthi (horoscope) before a meeting. The family purohit or astrologer does the jotok bichar from it. The biodata only has to carry the lines they look for first.

Our form prints four horoscope rows: Rasi, Nakshatra, Lagna and Chevvai / Manglik. Enter the date, time and place of birth and it fills the rashi, nakshatra with pada and lagna by itself. If your kosthi says something else, pick the kosthi's value.

Gotra is under Add More Details in the same section. Write the father's gotra, such as Shandilya, Kashyap or Bharadwaj. Many families avoid a match within the same gotra, which is why it goes near the top. Our guide on what a gotra is explains the rule.

The gan is not a ready field. It is one of the first points in a Bengali match, so many families write it. Add it with Add Your Own Field in the horoscope section, name it Gan and type Deb, Nar or Rakshas as the kosthi shows. If you do not know it, leave it out. The purohit will read it from the kosthi anyway.

Some kosthis give the birth date in the Bengali calendar (Bangabda) too. Copy it into one more own field if your family likes to see it.

Adi Bari, Ghoti and Bangal

On a Bengali biodata, the Native Place row prints as আদি বাড়ি (adi bari). That is the line where the family's roots show. Many families whose grandparents came from East Bengal write the old district, like Barishal, Faridpur or Dhaka, even after three generations in Kolkata. Others write a West Bengal town such as Chandannagar, Hooghly. Write what your family says at home.

The present address goes separately in Contact Details. Keep it to the area and city, like Behala, Kolkata.

Mama bari gets asked about early. Add Maternal Uncle from Add More Details in Family Details and write the mama's name with his town.

Shri, Shrimati and the Parents' Names

What you type prints as typed, so write the names the way Bengali biodatas usually do. Hindu families put Shri before the father's name and Shrimati before the mother's. If a parent has passed away, write Late or Swargiya before the name.

Write the father's work plainly. "Retired, State Bank of India" says more than "service".

How the Bengali Setting Works

The site is in English. The Biodata Language box, the first one in "Top of the Biodata", decides what the biodata prints. Choose Bengali.

After that the labels, the section titles and anything picked from a list (the rashi, the Diet, Marital Status) print in Bangla. Whatever you type prints exactly as typed. So you can type in English and get Bangla labels with English details, or type the details with a Bangla keyboard on the phone for a page that is Bangla from top to bottom.

Dates print in numbers, 09-02-1994, with English digits. The form does not switch the digits to Bengali numerals. Phone numbers also keep English digits.

Want another word on a row? Open the row's three-dot menu and use Rename. The new name prints only on the Bengali copy.

Blessing Lines and Titles

A Bengali biodata starts with the Blessing Line on. The Bangla lines for a Hindu biodata are:

  • শ্রী শ্রী প্রজাপতয়ে নমঃ
  • শ্রী শ্রী দুর্গা সহায়
  • শ্রী শ্রী গণেশায় নমঃ

Hindi lines such as ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥ are offered under a Hindi heading in the same list. A Muslim biodata gets বিসমিল্লাহির রাহমানির রাহিম and the Arabic Bismillah.

The title list has বিয়ের বায়োডাটা, বিবাহের বায়োডাটা, বায়োডাটা and পাত্রের বায়োডাটা (for a boy). For a girl, choose Write My Own and type পাত্রীর বায়োডাটা if you like.

Bangla Biodata Format from Bangladesh, or from West Bengal?

Many "bangla biodata format" results online are from Bangladesh, and they usually have no kosthi. Families in West Bengal, Tripura and Assam's Barak Valley mostly want the Hindu format above. Both come from the same form. A Muslim Bengali family chooses Muslim as the Religion, and the horoscope section switches off by itself.

Common Questions

Is There a Bengali Marriage Biodata Format in Word?

Yes. After you download the PDF or the image, the done screen offers "Download Word File", a .docx of the same biodata that opens in Microsoft Word. The Word format page shows how it looks.

Can I Make a Bangla Biodata for Free?

Yes. One biodata per verified mobile number is free, in any of the 63 free designs. The free download has a small "Made free at hellobiodata.com" line at the bottom.

What Is Gan on a Bengali Biodata?

Gan is the group your birth star belongs to: Deb, Nar or Rakshas. Bengali families look at it early in a match. Add it as your own field in the horoscope section, or leave it for the purohit to read from the kosthi.

Should I Write Desher Bari on the Biodata?

Most Bengali families do, and our Bengali biodata already has the row: Native Place prints as আদি বাড়ি. It is your choice whether to write an East Bengal district or the West Bengal town where the family is settled.

Can I Make a Biyer Biodata in English?

Yes. Keep the Biodata Language as English and the same details print with English labels. For a family abroad or outside Bengal, many send the English copy and keep a Bangla one for elders.

Can a Bangla Biodata Be Made Without the Kosthi?

Yes. Switch off "Include horoscope on the biodata" and the rashi, nakshatra and gan lines do not print. Gotra sits in that section, so add it again with Add Your Own Field in Personal Details if you still want it.
