Rajput Marriage Biodata Format

A Rajput marriage biodata opens with lineage. The clan (such as Rathore, Chauhan or Sisodia) comes first, then the vansh, the khanp or branch, the gotra, the kuldevi and the thikana or native village. Many families also write the nanihal, the mother's family and clan, because they avoid a match into either clan.

What Goes in a Rajput Biodata for Marriage?

For most Hindu biodatas the gotra places a family. For a Rajput biodata the clan does that work. "Rathore" or "Bhati" in the first lines tells the other family a great deal before they reach the photo, and Rajput families do not marry within their own clan.

After the clan, elders look for the khanp, the thikana, and the father's and grandfather's names. In Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal, many of them know each other's families by these alone. Education, job and the horoscope come after.

Vansh, Clan, Khanp, Gotra and Kuldevi

Five lineage lines, and not every family uses all of them. Write the ones your elders use.

The vansh is the broad line. Families write one of three, and the clans are usually counted like this:

VanshClans usually counted under it
SuryavanshiRathore, Sisodia, Kachhwaha
ChandravanshiBhati, Jadeja
AgnivanshiChauhan, Parmar (Panwar), Solanki, Parihar

These groupings are traditional. Some families and historians place a clan differently, so write what your family says.

The clan is usually the surname. The khanp (also called shakha) is the branch inside the clan, such as Jodha or Champawat among Rathores, or Shekhawat among Kachhwahas. Some branches have grown so large that families now use them as the clan name itself.

The gotra is separate from the clan. Many young people do not know theirs offhand. Ask an elder or the family priest, because some families check the mother's gotra too. Our page on same gotra marriage explains what the law says and what custom says.

The kuldevi is the clan's family goddess. Many Rathore families worship Nagnechi Mata, for example. Write the kuldevi with her temple town if the family visits it.

Thikana, Nanihal and Three Generations

Many Rajput biodatas list three generations on the father's side: "S/o Thakur Mahendra Singh Rathore, grandson of Late Thakur Bhawani Singh". Titles like Thakur, Rawat, Kunwar or Baisa go in only if the family uses them in daily life.

The thikana is the ancestral village or estate. Write it with tehsil and district, even if the family has lived in Jaipur or Delhi for two generations.

The nanihal is the mother's family. Write its clan and village, since many families avoid a match into the mother's clan as well as the father's.

Army, police and government service are common in Rajput families. Write them in full, with rank and posting: "Major, Indian Army, posted at Pathankot". A retired father's last rank goes in Father's Occupation.

Kundli and Gun Milan

Most Rajput families match the kundli before a meeting, at least for gun milan and manglik. Our form works out the rasi, nakshatra, lagna, dasa at birth and tithi from the date, time and place of birth. The 36 gun milan page explains how the score out of 36 works.

Chevvai / Manglik is never filled in by the form. Choose No, Yes, Partial or Don't Know, the way your panditji has told you.

A Filled Rajput Biodata Format for a Girl

The girl, her family and their villages are made up. The phone number is masked. Rasi and nakshatra would fill in from the birth details, so we have left them out.

Header Lines Rajput Families Choose

Most Rajput biodatas put Ganesha at the top. He comes in by itself when you choose Hindu as the Religion. In Hindi, the Blessing Line list offers:

  • ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥
  • ॥ ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥
  • ॥ जय माता दी ॥
  • ॥ श्री ॥ and ॥ ॐ ॥

Families who like to name the kuldevi at the top can choose Write My Own and type the line themselves, in Hindi or English letters.

Hindi or English?

Families in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh mostly print in Hindi. Families in the cities and in the forces often send an English one. Type the details in English and choose the biodata language. On a Hindi biodata the labels and the rasi and nakshatra names print in Devanagari, and what you type prints as you typed it. The Hindi marriage biodata page shows the Hindi labels.

How to Make a Rajput Biodata Here

  1. Open the designs. Royal Maroon, Bandhani Dots and Marigold Toran suit a Rajput biodata, and Gold Foil Royal is one of the premium designs.
  2. Choose "This Biodata Is For: Male / Female" and type the Full Name.
  3. Verify your mobile number once with the SMS code.
  4. Fill Personal Details with Religion as Hindu. In Caste / Community, typing Thakur or a clan name such as Rathore finds it in the list. A picked clan prints alone ("Rathore"), so type "Rajput (Rathore)" if you want both words.
  5. Gotra is under Add More Details in the horoscope section. Add Vansh, Khanp, Kuldevi and Nanihal with Add Your Own Field.
  6. Choose Hindi or English at the top, then Download PDF or Download Image. The screen after that offers a free Word file too.
