Wedding Wishes in Hindi, by Relation, with Shayari

Wedding Wishes in Hindi, by Relation, with Shayari

The most common wedding wish in Hindi is "विवाह की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएँ" (vivah ki hardik shubhkamnayein), which means heartfelt good wishes on your wedding. For a friend or cousin, "शादी मुबारक" (shaadi mubarak) or "शादी की बहुत-बहुत बधाई" (shaadi ki bahut-bahut badhai) sounds warmer. Add the couple's names and one line of blessing, and the wish is complete.

Every wish below is written for this page. Each is given in Devanagari for the card or envelope, and in English letters for WhatsApp, because many uncles type Hindi in English letters on the phone.

Short Hindi Wishes for a Card or WhatsApp

These fit on a small card, a gift tag or the flap of a shagun envelope.

DevanagariIn English letters
Vivah ki hardik shubhkamnayein. Aap dono sada khush rahein.
Shaadi ki dher saari badhai. Bhagwan aapki jodi salamat rakhe.
Naye jeevan ki shubh shuruaat par bahut-bahut badhai.
Aapka ghar hansi aur pyaar se bhara rahe. Shaadi mubarak.
Dono parivaron ko is naye rishte ki bahut-bahut badhai.

"Hardik" means from the heart, and "shubhkamnayein" means good wishes. You will also see it spelt "shubhkamnaye" in English letters. Both are fine.

What Vivah Ki Hardik Shubhkamnayein Means, and When to Use It

Vivah ki hardik shubhkamnayein is the formal Hindi wedding wish. It is what you write to an elder or your boss. It also goes on a printed card from a whole family.

For a friend, it sounds stiff. Too stiff. "Shaadi mubarak" or "bahut-bahut badhai ho" is closer to how people talk at the mandap. One rule of thumb: if you would touch the person's feet, use "vivah" and "shubhkamnayein". If you would hug them, use "shaadi" and "badhai".

Shaadi Shayari, Two Lines Each

Shayari is a short rhymed verse, and Hindi speakers love a two-line sher in a wedding card. These four are original and free to copy.

Chai ki pyaali ho ya lamba safar, har subah saath ho, har shaam ho behtar.

Mehndi ka rang gehra ho, haathon mein haath rahe, jeevan ke har mod par dono ka saath rahe.

Aaj baji hai shehnai, ghar mein aayi hai bahaar, dua hai bas itni si, bana rahe ye pyaar.

And one for a close friend who can take a joke:

अब तक रिमोट पर था सिर्फ़ तेरा राज, शादी मुबारक भाई, सब बदल गया आज।

Ab tak remote par tha sirf tera raaj, shaadi mubarak bhai, sab badal gaya aaj.

Do not send the last one to his father.

Hindi Wishes for Friends

With friends, you can be cheeky. Nobody wants a formal shubhkamnayein from the boy who shared their tiffin for twelve years.

(Meri saheli aaj dulhan bani hai, aur sabse zyada khush main hoon.)
(Tum dono ki jodi dekhkar lagta hai, upar wale ne fursat mein banayi hai.)
(Bhabhi, ise sambhalna aasaan nahin hai. Hamari poori hamdardi aapke saath hai.)

The last one is for the groom's friends to say to the bride. She will laugh. He may not. That is the point.

Hindi Wishes for Family

For a Sister

(Meri pyaari didi, naye ghar mein bhi aise hi muskurati rehna. Shaadi ki bahut-bahut badhai.)
(Gudiya, ab mere kapde churane wala koi nahin rahega. Khush rehna, aur har tyohaar par ghar aana.)

For a Brother and the New Bhabhi

(Bhaiya, shaadi mubarak. Bhabhi, is ghar mein aapka swagat hai.)

From Parents and Elders

Elders give aashirwad, a blessing.

(Jug-jug jiyo, sada khush raho. Hamara aashirwad hamesha tum dono ke saath hai.)
(Bitiya, aaj tum apna naya ghar basane ja rahi ho. Yeh ghar bhi hamesha tumhara rahega.)
(Bahu, hamare parivar mein tumhara swagat hai. Tum dono ek-doosre ka dhyan rakhna.)

Many elders also say "सदा सुहागन रहो" (sada suhagan raho) to the bride, a blessing for a long married life. It is still common in Rajasthan, UP and Bihar.

Wishes for a Colleague or the Boss

Office wishes stay formal.

(Aapko vivah ki hardik shubhkamnayein. Aapka dampatya jeevan sukhmay ho.)
(Aadarniya sir, aapke suputra ke vivah par hardik badhai. Navdampati ko hamari shubhkamnayein.)

"Dampatya jeevan" means married life, and "navdampati" means the newly married couple. Both are standard in printed Hindi and in government offices.

Wishing a Muslim Couple in Hindi or Urdu

"शादी मुबारक" (shaadi mubarak) and "निकाह मुबारक" (nikah mubarak) are the usual greetings. A simple Urdu line for the card is "अल्लाह आप दोनों को हमेशा खुश रखे" (Allah aap dono ko hamesha khush rakhe), may Allah keep you both happy always.

Many families also write the dua the Prophet said for a newly married person, recorded in Jami at-Tirmidhi, hadith 1091: "Barakallahu laka wa baraka alaika wa jama'a bainakuma fi khair". It means: may Allah bless you, send blessings upon you, and bring you together in goodness.

Hinglish Wishes for WhatsApp

On the family WhatsApp group, most people mix Hindi and English. So do these.

  • Congratulations bhai, finally settle ho gaya. Shaadi mubarak to both of you.
  • Happy married life, Neha and Kunal. Bahut saara pyaar from all of us in Lucknow.
  • Wedding pe nahi aa paaye, sorry. Dher saari badhai, photos zaroor bhejna.
  • Welcome to the family, Pooja. Ab family group mein ek aur member, ek aur good morning message.

If you missed the wedding, say so in the wish and send the shagun by UPI the same day. A wish that arrives a week late reads like an afterthought.

What to Write on a Shagun Envelope in Hindi

The classic line printed on many shagun envelopes is "शुभ विवाह के अवसर पर सप्रेम भेंट" (shubh vivah ke avsar par saprem bhent), a loving gift on the occasion of the wedding. Below it, write your name and your relation.

A full sample for the envelope:

शुभ विवाह के अवसर पर सप्रेम भेंट। आशीर्वाद सहित, रमेश और सुधा शर्मा (दुल्हन के मामा-मामी), इंदौर।

Write the relation every time. At a wedding with 600 guests, the family opens the envelopes late at night, and "Sharma ji" alone could be anyone. Add the town too. For the amount itself, our guide on how much shagun to give goes relation by relation.

For more wishes in English, see our main page of wedding wishes. If you are printing the card itself in Hindi, the wedding card matter in Hindi has the wording. And if a cousin at the wedding is next in line, a Hindi biodata is the first step, so start one in a few minutes. More guides are in the invitations and gifts section.
