Prajapati Samaj Biodata for Marriage

Prajapati Samaj Biodata for Marriage

A Prajapati samaj biodata has the usual birth, education, job and family lines, plus four things Prajapati elders look for early: the sub-group, the gotra, the kuldevi or kuldevta, and the native village with district. Write the community name the way your samaj writes it, because the same families are called Prajapati, Kumhar, Kumbhar or Prajapat in different states.

Customs in Jhansi are not the same as in Kolhapur. This page lists what many families write and the points to confirm with your own elders.

One Community, Several Names

The Wikipedia article on the Kumhar describes a community found across India, Nepal and Pakistan, historically linked with pottery. The name comes from the Sanskrit kumbhakar, a maker of earthen pots. The same article notes that many Hindu Kumhars use Prajapati as an honorific, and that in Rajasthan the name Prajapat is common.

There is a well-known story behind the title. Brahma shared sugarcane among his sons, the potter forgot to eat his share because he was busy at the wheel, and the piece grew into a plant. Brahma was pleased and gave him the title Prajapati. Many families still tell it at weddings.

Today most Prajapati boys and girls are in jobs or business. Some families still run pottery, idol-making or brick work. Both kinds of family write the same biodata.

Which Name to Write in the Caste Line

Write the name your samaj uses on its own lists and melava forms. A few common ways:

RegionWhat families usually write
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, MPPrajapati, or Kumhar (Prajapati)
RajasthanPrajapat, or Kumhar with the sub-group
GujaratPrajapati, with the samaj or village group
MaharashtraKumbhar
JharkhandPrajapati or Kumhar, sometimes with the sub-group

If the samaj you are sending to has its own form, follow that form word for word.

Sub-Group and Gotra

Sub-groups matter in many Prajapati families. The Kumhar article lists Rajasthani sub-groups such as Mathera, Kheteri, Marwara and Timria, and names Kannuaja and Magahiya Kumhars in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In Madhya Pradesh it mentions Hathretie and Chakretie Kumhars. Your family may use a different name. That is fine. Write the one your elders use.

The gotra goes on its own line. Many Prajapati families avoid a match in the same gotra, and many also avoid the mother's gotra. Some families in Rajasthan and Haryana check more than two. Ask the eldest person on your father's side which gotras your family checks, and write them exactly as they say. Our gotra list shows how gotras are written across communities.

Points to settle with your elders before you type anything:

  1. The community name and sub-group the samaj uses.
  2. Your gotra, and whether the mother's gotra also goes on the biodata.
  3. The kuldevi or kuldevta, with the temple town.
  4. Whether families in your circle expect kundli details.

Writing the Family Work Line

Write family work plainly, with the place. "Father: pottery and idol workshop, own, since 1995, Pen" tells the other side far more than "business". The same goes for jobs: post, employer, city.

Some examples that read well:

  • Father: retired teacher, Basic Shiksha Parishad, Lalitpur
  • Family: brick kiln, own, Sikar district
  • Son: junior engineer, UP Jal Nigam, Kanpur

Leave out income figures for the family business. A biodata travels to many phones in a week.

Language and Header Line

Hindi is the usual choice in UP, Bihar, MP and Rajasthan. Gujarati families in Gujarat write in Gujarati, and Kumbhar families in Maharashtra usually use Marathi. English suits a boy or girl working in Pune, Bengaluru or abroad. Our maker prints in all of these, out of 12 languages.

Many Hindu Prajapati families start with ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥. Some prefer a line to their kuldevi. The blessing line list in our maker has the common ones, and Write My Own takes any other line.

Making It in Our Maker

Open the biodata maker, pick the language, and fill the four sections. Rasi, nakshatra and lagna fill in from the date, time and place of birth. Gotra is a chip in the Horoscope section, and Maternal Uncle is under Family Details. If you switch the horoscope off, add Gotra again with Add Your Own Field in Family Details, so it still prints.

You get an A4 PDF and a JPG image. The next screen also offers an editable Word document of the same biodata, free with the PDF. The Hindu marriage biodata page shows designs with a Ganesha header. If your family has roots in Rajasthan, our Kumawat samaj biodata guide covers a neighbouring community with similar lines.
