How Families in Andhra Pradesh Write a Marriage Biodata

A marriage biodata in Andhra Pradesh starts with the intiperu (family name) written before the given name, then the birth details, gotram, nakshatram with padam, rasi and kuja dosham. Education and job come next, and for many families in Guntur, Krishna and the Godavari districts, the line read most closely is the country and visa status. The native village and the mother's family close it.

Telugu families call it a pelli biodata. Most write it in English, and Telugu is common with elders in Rayalaseema and the villages.

Lines an Andhra Biodata Carries

LineWhat families writeExample
IntiperuThe family name, written firstBhamidipati
GotramFather's gotramSrivatsa, Kaundinya
Nakshatram and padamBirth star and quarterSwati, 3rd padam
RasiMoon signTula
Kuja doshamAs the family's purohit or siddhanti wrote itLedu (No)
Country and visaFor NRI boys and girlsH-1B, Dallas, USA
SwasthalamNative village or townTenali, Guntur district
MenamamaMother's brother, name and placeOften written by name
Sub-casteWhere the family uses oneNiyogi, Vaidiki, Gavara Kapu

The intiperu is the line that confuses outsiders. In Andhra, "Bhamidipati Sai Kiran" means the family is Bhamidipati and the person is Sai Kiran. Write it that way on the biodata, as it is on the certificates. If the passport has it the other way, as many US passports do, add one line with the full name as in the passport.

Gotram and the Jatakam

Most Hindu families in Andhra match the jatakam before the first meeting, and a same-gotram match is avoided. So the gotram sits high on the page, right after the caste. It is checked first.

Give the nakshatram with padam and the exact time and place of birth. The other side's siddhanti will draw the jatakam again from those three. Write kuja dosham as your own siddhanti said it. Do not guess. Our page on horoscope matching in Telugu families covers the matching itself.

Brahmin families often add the sutram and the Vedam, and whether the family is Niyogi or Vaidiki. Our Telugu Brahmin biodata guide has those lines.

The NRI and Visa Line

Coastal Andhra sends a very large number of engineers and students to the USA, and the biodata shows it. Families write the country, city, visa and job in one line, because it decides where the couple will live.

Be exact. "MS Computer Science, UT Dallas. Software engineer, a bank, Dallas. H-1B, green card in process." A vague line like "settled in USA" makes the girl's side ask five more questions. If the girl is in the US on an F-1 or H-4, write that too. Our NRI biodata for the USA guide has more wording, and what to check before you agree.

For boys and girls in India, write the company type and the city, like "Senior analyst, an IT company, Hyderabad". Many Andhra families now live in Hyderabad, Bengaluru or Chennai, so the city line matters as much as the native village.

Swasthalam and the Menamama

The swasthalam (native place) tells an elder which part of Andhra the family is from. Two Tenali families will usually find a common relative in one phone call. Write the village or town and the district.

The menamama (mother's brother) has a big place in a Telugu wedding, and many families write his name and town on the biodata. It helps the other side place the mother's family. Elders ask.

Telugu or English?

English is the most common choice, especially for NRI matches and for families in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur. Telugu suits elders in Kurnool, Anantapur, Kadapa and the villages, who read it faster.

If you pick Telugu in our maker, the labels print in Telugu. The sections print as వ్యక్తిగత వివరాలు, జాతక వివరాలు, కుటుంబ వివరాలు and సంప్రదింపు వివరాలు. Native Place prints as స్వస్థలం, Gotra as గోత్రం and the Manglik line as కుజ దోషం. Our Telugu biodata format guide is written in Telugu.

The Usual Header Line

Many Andhra biodatas begin with శ్రీరస్తు శుభమస్తు అవిఘ్నమస్తు, the same line printed on Telugu wedding cards. Others use శ్రీ వేంకటేశ్వర స్వామి ప్రసన్న, since so many families go to Tirumala, or శ్రీ గణేశాయ నమః. On an English biodata the header is often left out.

All three are in our Telugu blessing list. Christian families in Guntur and the Godavari districts often prefer a Bible verse, and Write My Own covers that.

How Biodatas Are Shared in Andhra Pradesh

Pelli peddalu (the elders who bring proposals) and paid marriage brokers are still active in many towns, often working within one community. Kamma, Kapu, Reddy, Vysya and Brahmin associations run their own registers and meets.

For NRI families, much of it happens on matrimony websites and in community WhatsApp groups spread between Andhra and the US. The PDF goes from Guntur to New Jersey in a minute. Sometimes less. Keep it to one page and leave out the house address.

Pelli choopulu, the first visit to see the girl, comes after the jatakams match. Our page on Telugu wedding rituals covers the rest.

Making It in Our Maker

Pick Telugu or English. Rasi, nakshatra with pada and lagna fill in from the birth details, and you can change them to match your jatakam. Gotra is under Add More Details in the horoscope section, and Maternal Uncle in the family section. Add Visa or Passport Name with Add Your Own Field.

The maker prints the details as text and does not draw the jatakam chart. After the PDF downloads, the next screen also offers an editable Word file, handy if a cousin in the US wants to change the job line later. You can start in the maker.

Common questions

What Is the Marriage Biodata Format in Andhra Pradesh?

Intiperu and name, birth date, time and place, height, caste, gotram, nakshatram with padam, rasi, kuja dosham, education, job with city and visa, parents and siblings, native place and the menamama.

Why Is the Surname Written First in a Telugu Biodata?

Telugu families write the intiperu (family name) before the given name. Keep that order, and add the passport spelling on one line if it differs.

How Should I Write US Visa Status?

Write the visa type, the city and the job in one line, like "H-1B, Dallas, software engineer". Avoid "settled in USA".

Is Gotram Necessary on an Andhra Biodata?

Most Hindu families write it, because a same-gotram match is avoided. If your family does not use one, leave it out.

Should the Biodata Be in Telugu or English?

English for most families, especially NRI matches. Telugu if the elders on both sides prefer it.
